When to buy AP

Hello forgive a new owner question. My DH and I are going for the first time in May. We are buying at least one AP (maybe 2). When should I purchase it?? We also want to buya DDE card but will do that onsite so we get the most out of it....

Since you are going in May and plan on getting the DDE, I'd wait and buy the APs at Guest Services. You will need the AP to get the DDE. If you called MS to prepurchase the AP, they will send you a voucher that you would have to exchange prior to getting the DDE card.

I know you can get your DDE card at any park guest realtaions, but, can you still use your AP voucher and order your DDE card before your trip? If so, how early should I do this?

It took about 3 weeks for me to get my plastic DDE card. I wanted plastic rather than the Tyvek, but that also may have cost me the 13th month that I could have had if I'd picked it up at Guest Relations. In our case that's ok because we won't be at WDW this Christmas season.

Previously you could only get the DDE card by mail and you had to have an AP or exchange voucher before you could mail the application. I believe they will still do them by mail if your travel date is far enough out. If you do get it by mail, you would have the card in hand when you arrive so that would be one less thing you would have take care of while on vacation. If you still have to exchange a voucher for the AP, hold off on the DDE card until you do that.

At least when I did it, I got a plastic DDE card rather than the Tyvek reinforced paper one that you get at guest relations. I wanted the plastic one.
