When to buy air ticket travelling around christmas time?

We Decided to spend the Christmas in the world this year and have reserved the resorts. However, when checking the airfare, it's about $500 round trip for one from Boston to Orlando. We usually go to the world in March and it usually costs between $250-$350 per head. I know it's peak season but should I book the tickets now? I am hoping by early September there will be a new round of fare price coming out. Or maybe it's just my silly little wish? Any advice?

Thanks.

We're also traveling in December. I purchased my tickets as soon as they were released. While I spent more than I regularly spend for airfare, I now had a seat. We fly AirTran non-stop. Depending on who you book with, you may be able to receive a credit if the price of your fare drops. I was credited $168.00 yesterday because of a price drop. My airfare is tracked through Yapta dot com They email me when there's a drop and I get on the phone to inquire about a credit.

It's tough to say--it's always a gamble. I often read 4-6 weeks out is the best time, but I always have luck booking as soon as airfares come out. I booked our December tickets the day the fares were released on Southwest. I just got an email from them about their fall sale, but the rates were still significantly higher than what I paid--almost double.

In the past I have seen airfares drop around September, when fuel prices also tend to go down. Like PP said, your best bet is probably to book on AirTran or SW so you can get a credit if they go down. Airfare overall is totally ridiculous right now!

We fly from Oregon, but last year we paid near $450 per person to fly into MCO the week before Christmas (purchased tickets in October). We wanted to go back this December but I was not wanting to pay that much for airfare, so we opted to go to the Villas at Grand Californian at Disneyland instead. We purchased our tickets about two weeks ago and got $190 per person to Long Beach, Ca.

When we went for ds's baseball tournament, we booked around the 2nd or 3rd week of September. I remember this because it was Back to School Night and the baseball parents were talking about how cheap Spirit was, but when I got home, the cheapest seats were already gone. (I think the $69 e/w seats were gone, but we got $109 which still wasn't bad). I do think the idea of booking with a site that will credit you if the price goes down is a great idea though!

I would book now, it is very difficult to get a good price during xmas wk.

We went to WDW for Xmas day through New Years 2010. I booked as soon as flights were available and they still were in excess of $500 each then. We had to get back for my DH's job. It's the holiday season and unless you are willing to drive, you could be left out in the cold, if you wait for better deals. Good Luck.:santa:

OP I'm from the same area you are. That's about what you're going to pay. When airfare was still cheap (we were getting $79 each way from BOS to MCO or MHT to MCO) during off-peak times, we still paid $450/pp to fly during Christmas week. We booked as soon as flights were released and they never went down. I would buy now.

Thanks all. I just booked SW flying from providence , they offer non stop flight (surprisingly there is no direct flight from BOS to MCO via SW). About $450/ticket. I guess now I will look for I'd there is any price drop for credits.
Thanks again.
