When to book Sun Country for January flight from Minneapolis?

I'm looking for a cheap, direct flight from Minneapolis, but the early prices from Sun Country don't look as good as I had hoped. How long would you wait before booking a reservation. Right now, I won't book until at least this summer.

Have you looked at Airtran? I signed up for their emails and usually can get $79 one way.

THat being said we will probably be flying Northwest next year because their flight times are better. I was pricing them out for this year and I could get the 4 of us (1 infant) for around $900. I'm willing to pay that for the better times. :)

I see you live in Ames. I thought airfare was generally chaper out of Iowa to Fl than MN?

Correct me if I'm wrong here!

Personally, I don't think SC is all that cheap anymore. check Northwest out of RST, too.

herc.

If you live in Ames have you checked out flights from Moline? Last year we flew from Moline, IL, to Orlando on Airtran. Their flights are usually cheaper per leg also. :)

Sun Country has been quite high for the last 6 months or so. I would not purchase from them unless you can get them down around $200 per ticket. Airtran is around $220 on a regular basis ($99 each way plus tax) and they do run deals.

Simply keep an eye on Sun Country and be ready to buy when you see a price you can live with. Sun Country is my carrier of choice, but I am giving Airtran a chance in October since SC is so high.

I would also look into my options in Iowa as the other posters have mentioned.

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions. Allegiant is cheap out of Des Moines and direct, but the times are not good, and they don't fly on Saturday. I'll look into AirTran, but if I am driving somewhere for a flight, than I am hoping for a direct flight.

By the way, what airport is RST?
