:magnify: Has anyone had the experience of booking the cheapest room & gotten a "view" upgrade?? Is it common? I'm not sure if I want to pay for the view?? Are their parking lot views? Or are the cheap views of gardens??
THANKS!

Sorry I posted this in the wrong spot. Can someone please move it?
THANKS!

Upgrades at the Poly are very rare.

We stayed there in a garden view room last October. Our room would have been a parking lot view had it not been for the wonderful landscaping. Who ever planned the landscaping put in a lot of thought to preventing parking lot views. We were not too far from the parking lot but our view was of the tropical vegetation and the monorail. The CM at check asked my son if he would rather look out his window and see the pool or the monorail. It took NO thought...MONORAIL! ;)

I had a friend there the same week who was also in a garden view room. Her room looked out on a landscaped area with another building right on the other side. If you steped out on their patio area and looked to the left, you could see the CR.

We've stayed that the Poly 6 times and have never gotten an upgrade. We book GV and we are fine with that. I always book what I want so I am not disappointed. The Samoa building facing the volcano pool has a great view with the lagoon thrown in too! The Raratonga does have a monorail view side that faces the parking lot but we never see any cars. With the trees and flowers it is a gorgeous view. It is one of our favorites because it is great to sit on the balcony and watch the monorail zip by.

I once booked a garden room, but ended up with this view:

Maybe they consider it garden because the lagoon view is a little blocked by palm trees? Either way, a view that includes the castle is a-ok in my book!

WDW Poly Princess,

What room number was that in Aotearoa? Do you remember? Part of that side is garden view and part is lagoon view. I am just wondering if that is a 3rd floor room that is garden view. I would love to add that photo to my site.

Aloha

In over 30 trips to WDW, I have never requested or paid for a better view. In my opinion, all views are just as nice with some better and others worse. We meander the resort most of the time, picking out our own views and when its time for bed, we close the drapes and go to sleep. During the day, the view we have is just great, we're in Disneyworld and nothing beats that. No sense paying for a view of the castle when its just right across the lake, go there and see it all you want and spend that extra money for an up grade on something else. There is more to Disney then a good room view, enjoy the sounds, smells and sights, do some walking, sitting out and watching people then sitting in your room and looking at the view from a balcony that you paid extra for, you'll find out it wasn't worth the money when you can go outside and see everything close up, first hand.

We always book a garden view room and our views have always been great.

We like the Fiji longhouse .... we've stayed on the 'garden' side and the 'marina' side (both were regular garden view rooms). If I wasn't so technologically inept I'd post pictures of our views!

Anyway - the 'garden' side looked out over lush vegetation, a small beach (I believe it's the beach pictured in WDW Poly Princess's post), the Wedding Pavilion, Luau Cove and the monorail.

The 'marina' side had a view of, well, the marina. :teeth: We also could see Seven Seas Lagoon, the Poly dock, the volcano pool, the Contemporary. And, when I layed in bed at night I could see the fire flaming up from the fire pit in OHana's! The view was nice but I found the room to be noisy (especially those water mice!). But it was cool to stay on the marina side.

I think we were given an upgrade TO the poly last summer, so I made request based on Tikiman's site (thanks Tikiman!) I know I wanted 3rd floor no smoking. We were given 2nd floor Roratonga (I think - the one to the right of the Ceremonial house!) I started to say something, and then thought better of it, nope, I'm just grateful! It was way too hot to go out on the balcony, so close to the Ceremonial house, the quiet pool was our view! (I know I booked standard I think I started at POFQ but I kept calling back asking 'how much more to go here? Finally one CM said oh look why dont you go to the Poly, same price - this before I found the Dis and codes btw!) Knowing rack rates were in the $200's we just walked around in a daze thinking "can you believe we're at the POLY??" :rotfl:
