when should I ship our USPS flat rate box full of stuff to our resort?

I don't want to send it too early, or too late. We're in VT - anyone have any idea how long it will take to get there? How long will they hold it for us (if it arrives a few days before we're getting there?)
thanks!

People have posted on other threads that using the U.S. Postal Service is not a good idea for this purpose. If you ship through the Post Office, your package will get sent to a central holding area at Disney. It will not get sent directly to your hotel. There will be a time lag before it gets to your hotel.

The suggestion has been to use UPS or Fed Ex, which deliver directly to your hotel.

(If you are staying at a Disney hotel which has a convention center attached, your package will get handled along with all of the convention packages, and you will be charged a fee. But that's another story which has been discussed on other threads.)

Curious about this also so I am jumping in to HiJack your thread, sorry. I was wondering also, just what are you shipping yourself?

Great question! I'm shipping stuff down as and have been wondering exactly what to do. I posted a similar question on the DVC board and didn't get any responses :confused3

I wasn't aware that the postal service wasn't a good way to go to ship a box but now I'll definitely go with UPS!

I was going to call the resort and ask them exactly what I should do to make it easiest!

well...now I don't know what I'll ship - I was going to send heavy stuff to save on luggage fees by using a flat rate box. But if I'm going UPS, I don't know if it'll save me any money at all. I was planning to put in some jars of mandarin oranges (my kids LIVE for these at breakfast), some granola bars, craisins, etc. and other snack things along with a package or two of wipes for DS.

If your going to ship food items perhaps think of ordering from gardengrocer.com I bet the $10 they charge for delievery will be cheaper then the shipping!

I just shipped a box that was 18.6 pounds of things that won't be returning with me (diapers, wipes, cereal, poptarts, shower toiletries bc I like my own stuff, etc.), and it was only $15.51 through FedEx, and it arrived in 3 days. Fed Ex and UPS both have an online time and cost estimates. When I contacted Disney, they said to make sure you have your name, reservation #, and arrival date on the box. Hope this helps. :)

I am also planning to ship myself a box with UPS. I'll be putting in our own toiletries, extra shoes, a few hoodies, razors, and anything that I can't take in our carry-ons, because we're not checking any luggage.

Yes, but they have a $40 minimum order, which I could easily reach with what I want, but it's going to be much cheaper to buy it here at a discount and ship some to myself and put some in our luggage.....I think!

Last year I shipped a cooler containing snacks, pull ups, bubbles, glow sticks, and a nights worth of clothes for each of us (in case of misplaced luggage). From indiana I shipped UPS ground for $26. I shipped on Monday and it arrived on Thursday. It was $1 more than airline fees but I knew it would be there when we arrived and I didn't have to drag it through the airport on the way down.

Garden Grocer isn't the only delivery option. WeGoShop.com doesn't have a minimum order, the delivery fee is reasonable (competitive with shipping in our experience, and gives us more options - shipping soda and juice wouldn't be too practical!) and they shop normal stores so the per item prices are not inflated like Garden Grocer. We've used them twice in the past and have been happy enough with the service that we're using them again in December.
