When does DDP start compared to your check-in?

I didn't want to add a non sequitor to the other DDP threads but this is related.

We plan on arriving at Disney around 11 or 12 on a Sunday, although we know that we will not be able to check into VWL until later in the afternoon. If we book a lunch at CM, will we be able to use our DDP credits, or will we need to wait until after the established check-in time? We're planning on attending MNSSHP that night and would like to eat our big meal earlier in that day so that we don't miss out on any of the fun that evening.

The DDP should start as soon as you get the key card.

That shouldn't be a problem. You can "check in" at 11 or 12, get your room key, tickets, etc. -- but your room might not be ready until 4 or whatever...

Basically, yes, you can check in and use your plan that day....

Head to VWL first and check-in. This will allow you to access your DDP credits although you probably won't be able to get in your room. We've done this on our last two trips. We stopped by, checked in and got our room keys (which "holds" your DDP credits) then headed to the parks. The resort called our cell phone and let us know our room number when it was ready.

Sorry to tiptoe off topic here, but...

The resort called your cell phone to let you know your room is ready? We always get the card with the number to call and check on the room. Can you request that they call you?

Yes. The last time we were there they took our number and offered to call. We had the key and the number so we could call them also which is what we've done in the past. So, if you prefer I'd request they give you a call when you check in.
