when do you need the AP for AP rates at DL hotels?

For the Annual Passholder rate, do you need to have an annual pass at the time of making the reservation, or just in time for when you check in?

You just need the annual pass at time of check in. I made reservations with the AP discount and made arrangements to buy my AP at time of check in.

Can APs be purchased at the hotel? I was reading on Intercot that you have to have them processed on Main St in DL, but I assume that when you buy an AP you get some sort of certificate that gets you through the gates the first time, to go get the processing done.

Yes they can be purchased at the hotel. We got a ticket/voucher that got us into the park then we had to go to the bank on main street to validate them and get our pictures taken. Try to get to the bank as soon as it opens, the lines can get really long. Also keep your pass handy to get discounts on meals all day...really comes in handy!!!
