When do on-site hotels charge for your stay?

They charge for the first night when you book as a deposit. The remaining balance plus anything youve charged to the room when you check out.

Most hotels will put a hold on your account for the total amount at check in. I would be prepared for that to happen. Then, when you check out they actually process the charge.

When should any gift cards be applied then? I would have thought they should be presented at check out, but maybe they should be at check in then to not have that amount be prepped to be charged to the card?
