When do holiday crowds let up? Planning for early Jan 2018?

Hi,
We are booked on the Carnival Vista for Jan 7th, 2018 and we plan to fly to Orlando on Thursday Jan 4th and stay at Universal 2 nights and spend the day at the park on that Friday?

Just wondering if crowds start to slim down by then? I see conflicting crowd calendars with some saying 9 out of 10 and others say low crowds.

How was it this past January the week after New Years?

I don't want to wait till the back end of our cruise because it will be MLK weekend.

I know I have plenty of time to work this out, but I am a planner. Hoping to get a good deal to stay on site as it gets closer.

We really want to just do all the Harry Potter stuff and the new Kong ride.....

Earliest I have stayed at UO hotels in January was starting on the 3rd

Had crowds until about the 5th
After that, a great time to be there

Had ep as stayed at rpr but still ran into crowds walking inside the parks and for eateries
