a sippee cup?

a high chair?

My DD has been asking me lately when it will be time to wean DS off a sippee and how long he will still need a high chair before going into a booster seat. I've told her each child is different. I was wondering is there a typical age for both of these or is it when the child is ready basically.

It seems like it got earlier with each child. I know my twins were out of highchairs at 2, and off the sippy at 3. My sister's 5 year old dd still uses one, and it drives me crazy! :sad2:

DS,4 and a half, was out of a highchair (except in restaurants) at about 18 months. We had a booster seat until he was 3.
We have a zillion sippy cups in our because we have a baby and a younger niece who is here all the time. We pretty much stopped using them around age 3, but I'll be the first to admit that he sometimes asks for one, and I couldn't care less :)

DS just turned 2 in Novmeber and we moved him out of the high chair right before his 2nd birthday. He uses a straw cup now and only a sippie in the car (less mess). We plan to phase that out very soon though. :goodvibes

DS is 22 months and went out of the high-chair about 2 months ago. I just couldn't stand that big thing in my kitchen anymore and we do have the booster that goes right up to the table.

He's still using sippy cups but sometimes uses a straw with a glass. We're working on teaching him not to tip the cup back with the straw! Surprisingly, he can drink a water bottle with no stopper pretty well now too.

DS #1 was done with the sippy cup shortly after turning 2 and done with the highchair a few months before turning 3.

DS#2 is 4, almost 5, and I’m trying to convince him to fully give up the sippy cup; he doesn’t use it anywhere but home, but he won’t give it up at home in the mornings and at night—during the day isn’t an issue. He gave up the highchair around 18 months.

DS#3 gave up the highchair at about 2, give or take a few months. He just turned 3 and is pretty much refusing the sippy cup most of the time. I’d let him fully give it up, but he dumps when he’s done (he thinks it’s funny) and sometimes I don’t have the time to deal with it/keep a constant eye on him (stand guard).

DS and DD were out of their Sassy Seat no later than 20 months. They can drink out of a cup fine (about 2ish), but I still have them use some kind of spippy/spill-proof cup around the house for my sake.

My daughter was easy to switch to a sippy. She switched to the hard playtex sippies by 10 months for most drinking. I think she was in a high chair till almost two, but mainly because she was petite and still is.

The boys were using sippies till they were three.. but they are messy and were constantly spilling all over. However they were drinking out of a cup around 18 month when at the table.

Mariska, more than likely my last, is just starting the sippy. She is already in a booster at the dining room table but mainly because we have a high dining room table with stool height chairs. Her high chair became the "low chair" lol She was like a foot lower than us, so we got the high chair booster, but recently stop using the tray. :)

DS was done with the sippy cup before turning 2. I am not sure when but we were never big sippy cup users. I had all the ones where the liquid will just pour out vs having to suck, so all drinks have always been at the table anyways.

Highchair is another story. He is almost 6 and will still sit in it if we have company or just ask sometimes. It is wooden and just sits in our kitchen always. I know by 2 I was annoyed with cleaning it up though and had a little tikes booster at the table. He still sits in that (much neater that way).

Sippy was gone around 2 1/2 I had a straw cup or two around but mostly she used regular cups by then but I think it depends on the child and their dexterity and fine motor skills. Some can not use a regular cup easily until 3-4(boys I hear is more common and I seen it in working daycare).

highchair we stopped sometime around 18 months maybe earlier because I did home daycare and the other child used the highchair and DD used a booster seat.

Both DDs out of highchairs by age 2, out of sippy cups by age 3 (except when very sick in bed - to make it so they wouldn't soak themselves when getting a drink at night if they were dehydrated). My dentist told me that tooth decay can occur when sippy cups are used extensively, as it pours the liquid onto the back of the teeth, which doesn't get brushed/cleaned as well as the front.

I find kids are moved to early to the next stage. I wouldn't rush it. The sippy cup is the only thing that there is a good reason to stop using (the whole mouth/teeth development). Other than that, it is your convenience/preference.

We moved to straw sippy cups at 2, on our ped's rec (straws are better than the other type). (It is mostly water, with milk about twice a day.) We use straw sippy cups until kindergarten - convenient and preschool requires a sippy or sport cup.

For high chair, both DDs were in it until 3 or 3 1/2. When DD#2 was about a year old, I bought an Ikea high chair which was plastic, had a fixed tray (didn't have to remove it to remove child) and was so much easier to clean than the typical chair. And it is relatively small.

We used sippy or straw sippy for a long time, my child drinks lots of water and it was just easier to travel with. Even now DS7 he has a sigg water bottle with a sport sippy on top. Heck we all do. Booster at 3 I think. I am a big highchair and stroller advocate. I like to have the little stinkers restrained:rotfl2:

DD#3 will be 2 on the 27th she has been in a booster seat since about 18 mos, just started drinking out of an open cup at the table- if we are out then it is a straw sippee- all the "suckers" are gone- of course we also move them to twin beds at 1 - but I tend to use strollers longer- to each their own!

My kids were in a high chair as long as their bodies would fit in one. I see no reason to rush that stage. I know they're confined and have no choice but to sit and eat. Why rush it and have to worry about them getting up from the table and running around?

Sippy cups probably about 2 1/2- 3.

My son is almost 19 months old... and he has been drinking from a straw cup and juice boxes for about 3-4 months now.

He doesn't really sit in a high chair anymore....maybe once or twice a week....he usually sits in a reg chair...

Right after DS turned 1 I got rid of the high chair. I hated how much room it took up in the kitchen. He was bigger too, so he could sit in a booster at the table just fine (and still be confined). He will be 3 in March and still uses the booster at home. At restaurants he usually uses a booster as well, but sometimes in booths we don't use anything.

At daycare and at meals DS uses a regular cup. He doesn't drink a whole lot the rest of the day (unless it is really hot and we make him) but when he does ask we still use a sippy. That is mainly for my sake though and not having to deal with the mess if he would spill. I say we stopped using a sippy at meals around 2 1/2 but we could have done it earlier probably.

My kids turned 2 this fall. They have been out of highchairs since 12 months. They sit in Fisher-Price booster seats that we can take along for trips as well. These simply attach to a chair and they can sit right up to the table. They use sippy cups mainly at home because the straw kind are bad to leak, and they are still learning to place their drinks upright on a table when not drinking. My two are not ready for a cup yet and are still working on their silverware skills, but they tend to be a little behind because it's harder to reinforce skills for two at the same time, and one is 3 months younger than the other one.

Sippy cups probably about 2 1/2- 3.

My older kids were in their highchairs until about 3. However, I ended up switching over to the restaurant style at 2 with my twins (the chairs took up so much room), and even buckled, they soon learned to climb out, so boosters were actually safer!
