When can we make reservations?

Hi. We're planning a visit to Southern California next January, and want to spend a few days at Disney (we've been to WDW lots, but never DL). But it's strange - we can't make reservations! Does anyone know when they typically allow you to make hotel reservations? (We're actually DVC and will probably use points, but you can't do that yet either). Interestingly, it's not just Disney, as lots of California hotels in San Diego and LA seem to have similar restrictions.

Also, how long should we plan for parks - one day for each? We have two kids - 6 and 8.

weird,

DVC wouldn't allow you to make reservations? is that what they told you?
they should be able to tell you when you can make reservations.

call them back, and let us know.

We are going in February and I just emailed Disney to find out when we could book! They replied that their 2009 rates and bookings would be published in late August or early September and to just keep checking back on the website!

The only hotel in the area I can find 2009 rates on is the Candy Cane Inn. No one else has their rates for 2009 posted yet!

Trust me, I've been calling them regularly for about two months and am told the same thing by everyone I talk to. They aren't taking reservations yet. Nothing after Jan 1-4. They don't know when they will start taking bookings. But frankly, you can't even make regular non-DVC reservations for January yet. The Disney website says they only take reservations for trips up until Jan 4. So it's not DVC, it's Disney. But as tlovesdis says, it's not just Disney, it seems to be a California thing - we can't seem to make reservations for any hotels in San Diego either. I guess Californians are just much more laid back than us east coasters! It's very diffierent planning this trip compared to our previous WDW vacations!
