When can I get an extension on SW travel funds?

I would have thought this would be answered here already, but my searches found nothing. I am wondering if I can request a SW travel funds extension before the funds expire? I am planning a trip for 2 weeks after my funds expire. I cant use the funds for this trip currently, so I want to request an extension (for $50 fee) in order to use them. Can I request this even if my funds have not expired yet? If I have to wait until they expire to get the extension, the funds will be worthless to me. There is no way I will wait until 2 weeks prior to my trip to book my flight, in order to get the extension processed.

I am hoping someone tells me I can get the extension prior to them expiring since I have a lot of funds.....

Why not call Southwest and get the correct answer rather than relying on second and third hand information from these boards?

OP wouldn't hurt to call, but policy is you must wait until they actually expire.

I guess I didn't consider other people's experience with their travel funds to be second and third hand info, but rather first hand info. I had called, but the rep gave me a not so confident answer that I had to wait until they expire to get the extension. As is the case often, I thought that I could have had a misinformed agent, so I decided to post here to find out the experience others have had with this. If others were to post that they were able to extend theirs prior to the expiration, I planned to call back and persist until I find someone who could do it for me. If others here said they also were forced to wait until they expire, I would let the issue rest and accept the fact that the hundreds of dollars in travel funds are useless to me.

I also thought that posting this question could be useful to others who read it, giving them info on the extension policy.

I came to this board today with the EXACT same question, looking for info. I thought I remembered that you could extend the credits after they expired, but then I wondered if that changed with the new RR program.

Calling SW is not always that easy, either. Last week, i waited 45 minutes on hold, just to be told I needed to call a different Customer Service at another phone number. Took me a couple of days to get thru, (trying on and off) that number was busy busy.


I have a credit expiring in January I want to extend. I wish I could pay now, too, so I could apply it before it expires.
