I am wondering what times of the year are the easiest to get harder to get dvc resorts. Also which are the hardest and easiest to get (studio vs lg. villa).

I am also thinking at the 7 month window and maybe a waiting list.

Tring to decide on buying at SSR or waiting for a beach club resale and then buying more at the next new club down the line. I will be fine with SSR as a backup but Downtown is not my fav location with small kids. Honestly I love the pool at BCV because my son is almost 2 now and could spend a ton of time there but as he gets older SSR will be better.

Trying to decide before friday on SSR 150 pts

Generally, studios book up more quickly than the 2 bedroom units, which book more quickly than the 1 bedroom units.

The easiest times of the year to get reservations at the WDW DVC resorts at the 7 month window are September, January and the first two weeks of February, followed by the summer months - May, June, July & August.

Beyond that, it really depends on what resort you prefer. BCV will be most difficult to book in the Fall (October - December).

IMHO, there will always be some availability at the smaller DVC resorts (VWL, BCV & BWV) at the 7 month mark. As the number of DVC members grows, so will the competition to reserve the limited number of rooms at the smaller resorts. If you are willing and able to call day by day as soon as MS opens for your BCV reservation and don't mind using the waitlist for any days you can't get on that first call, you should be able to get into the BCV at the 7 month mark even in the "busier" times.

That said, at 7 months, you will seldom be successful in getting a standard view or a guaranteed Boardwalk view at the BWV, or a Grand Villa at either OKW or the BWV. Beyond that for at least the next few years, you should be able to regularly get into the smaller resorts at the 7 month mark if you call day by day. Many times of the year you can get in even if you only make one call at the 7 month mark.

Since you believe you will prefer the SSR location as your son gets older, it makes sense to me to buy there now (to take advantage of the extra 12 years and the F & F incentive) and just use the 7 month window to stay elsewhere while he is younger.

Best wishes -

I stayed at the POFQ at the end of September and our room was right off the pool. I know we were in it all the time! I like the BCV kids pool way more for what Jake likes but I know the pool will only be a big deel for about 5 years (we hope to have another baby next year). I love the little squirt thing at SSR, that was something we did stop for all the time all over Disney with Jake in September - he could have stayed at any of those forever!

Carol,
Thanks for your help, this is most likely what I will do. I like to travel any time but the summer, too hot! I do what to see Christmas on year but we can do that at SSR. I do what the additional years and we really like the selection of resturants in DTD. Hopefully they will have one at SSR soon (it is planned right?) In 10 years or less that will be the place Jake want to go for relaxing with all the archades :) Plus I can only afford the 150 pts right now. I have to pay it off right away and this amount makes me feel better about that. Maybe in 3 or 4 years we will save up and buy a small contract someplace else.

Thanks!
Karrie

Here is the catch...

Things will change over the life of the contract. BCV used to not be that hard in early October, but F&W moved back and now its much harder. At any time Disney could add an event smack in the middle of your favorite time to travel that makes a resort harder to book. Your kids will get older - faster than you can currently imagine - first will come scheduling around school vacations - and eventually they leave the house and you'll have made a decision for a pool that they don't use because even SAB is boring compared to Blizzard Beach when you are a teenager, and eventually, they sit next to the pool and don't swim, and then they are in college when you travel anyway.

(BTW, I find SAB to be maddening between the ages of say six and ten or twelve or so - the age where you want to keep an eye on them, but they don't want to swim with you and can be independant. Its a hard pool to watch kids in).

I often see people recommend getting a small contract at a resort you like to stay at besides your home resort. How does that help? You can only book at the 11 month mark for the points that are for that resort, correct? Is there an advantage that I am unaware of? :confused3

This has worked for us thus far. We have 182 points at OKW, 32 points at BCV and 60 points at HH. Though we can only book at the 11 month mark with the points from a given resort, we can have as many as 96 points available at BCV if we need them and as many as 180 points at HH if we need them. For our last WDW trip, I booked Christmas night (a Sunday) at the 11 month mark (2 studios) and then took the chance that I could get Friday and Saturday being high season weekend nights at the 7 month mark by switching from OKW to BCV. That was successful, though I don't know if I would have been able to get the rest of the nights after Christmas if I tried.

I agree that buying SSR now with 150 ponts sounds good. See how that works for you and later add-on at BCV or maybe there will be a new one you want more by then! My kids loved BCV pool. I considered adding on but funds were low back when it was in the works. Only the 14 yr. old would go in the pool much now. The 2 older are hard to please anywhere if it doesn't include their friends and doing "dumb" stuff we don't want to do now..... You will see that your wants and needs change over the life of a contract. That's why it is nice to have more than 1 contract so you can sell one later if things change or add-on if you want more points. Start smaller and see how the booking window works for you. You can probably go in off peak times, which will help alot. You can always book at SSR for when you want and if, at 7 mos. BCV is available, cancel SSR and book there. You may want to try the other DVC resorts too at some time. We have stayed at several and like to try them out. We have a few more to go. We want to try Vero and HH too. You are young and have alot of years to go to Disney. For us, when we bought, the contract sounded long enough for us because I will be old when it's over. SSR, well, I would probably be not moving by then, one way or the other but if I was young, and just buying,I would want the longer contract. Good Luck on your decision. You sound like you are on the right track though and have given this alot of thought.

FYI...I booked a 1 bedroom standard view at the BWV 6 months out (I wanted to book 7 mo out but counted wrong...duh). I was worried about what would be available since I lost a month but was surprised at what was still available. I had a choice between BWV (both views), SSR, OKW, and the BCV. I did not check on VWL because I stayed there in Oct. The dates I booked are July 23-28.
