When are the bad times for bugs and insects at WDW?

Off the top of my head, I suspect that September and April/May are bad, because it's lovebug season. I hear that's definately the case for VB---what about the DVC resorts on WDW itself? Which ones get overrun with bugs, and which ones (for whatever reason) aren't?

Thanks

I remember seeing love bugs early June when we went at that time once but otherwise I have never really had a bug problem at WDW and that includes almost all times of year. You have some potential for mosquitos most times of year but seldom are they a real problem around the parks or resorts, although you can often find plenty much of the year if you go into heavily wooded areas such as where they have Mickey's backyard barbeque.

Love bugs hit central Florida around the last three weeks of May and first week of June; then again around the last two weeks of September and first two weeks of October.

VB also has no-see-ums which are nasty little buggers. Particularly bad at dawn and dusk.

And then there are the BIGGER ones like water bugs or palmetto bugs which are about the size of a small dog (like what Paris Hilton carries in her bag). They are pretty much year round.

I live in Michigan so I am no stranger to bugs, but what exactly is a "love bug"? Is it a biting bug? Or is it just a giant VW with a "53" painted on the front?:rotfl: We are arriving June 6 for a 5 night stay. Do I need to pack insect repellant?

They are flying black bugs about the size of a lightning bug who appear in droves two different seasons per year in Florida (the ones noted above) and their only apparent purpose in life is to mate and mess up your windshield.

In 2003 last week of August into first week of September lots of love bugs  pretty much saw them most at VWL not as much at parks & other locations; often travel during these weeks and had never noticed them around during other years. Kristin I don't think they bite - pretty much just a nuisance; but those little bitty no-see-ums at VB do alot of damage )

Can you tell me more about the bugs at VB? We are going there the first weekend in May. I didn't know there would be bugs to worry about :(. Are they out at the beaches more at night, or all day long?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Dawn and dusk; JimC's post above has link to great info ( click on

no-see-ums in his post ). We found avon's skin so soft helped but sometimes

this doesn't seem to help some people at all.

They're annoying but they will not stop us from going to VB !! :goodvibes

That's how bad the love bugs can get. That was taken at one of the bus stops at WDW in Sept.

:scared:

I usually go the first weekend in June. They are usually out then and have seen them many times. I've never seen them as bad in that picture, but they do get annoying.

I will say that they seem the most annoying at the bus stops. I never really noticed them, in large numbers, anywhere else. I also can't remember seeing them at all in any of the parks.

Love bugs look similar to our "box elder" bugs. They get their name in the way they mate (I think that is what they are doing). At particular times of the year it seems like every "love bug" you see is attached to another "love bug". They do not bite but they sure make a mess out of your car. We used to live in LA and love bugs were everywhere.

September the Love bugs are out in full force.

We were there at the end of Sept 2008 and we saw hardly any, but in 2006 they were disgusting!!! It was like a horrbile 70's Sci-Fi/Horror Film.

Oh no I am driving down the first week of June and I have heard that they will ruin the paint on autos. Does anyone have any suggestions on product I could use that would help them not stick to my car?

Saran wrap?? Teflon??? We use Rain-X on our windows and headlights and even that doesn't help that much. Just don't turn on your wipers and try to wipe the carcasses off. You'll need to clean the window every so often.

We were there the beginning of Sept this past year and I didn't think the love bug thing was any big deal. We hardly saw any.
