We are staying deluxe next year for a specia trip and Poly is our first choice. However, we do not want to stay if renovations start taking over. Since I'm about to book a bounce back, I was wondering of anyone knew the details yet.

You should really check out the Tikiman pages, it has alot of great info. The only info that appears "definite" (as you know, nothing is definite at Disney) is the room renovations in each longhouse, which would not be visible to the average person. It is doubtful that they would have people staying in the longhouse that is being worked on. For instance, the Hawaii building is slated to be done Jan-Mar and CL has been taken out of inventory for those months, so I am sure the building will be closed.

Outside, the pool area may be worked on this fall, but that doesn't affect you. We have reservations for Poly CL in April, and I'm not really worried about the rennos....we stayed at WL last month with rennos in full swing and barely noticed a thing.

You can always book the Poly and change later if you see there is going to be alot going on during your stay (or book a different resort and change to the Poly later). Even though the BB has to be booked while you are checked into a Disney resort, you can make changes later on as long as there is availability under the BB. I would also take the BB info home with you just in case they change the dates of it after your stay. On one trip we booked the BB and I took the BB offer info home with me. A few months later I wanted to change our dates. When I called, I was told those dates weren't included in the BB offer. After telling the CM I was looking at the BB offer with those dates included, she put me on hold and came back and was able to make the change. So make sure you keep the original BB offer just in case you need (or want) to make changes later.

I completely agree with the other posters here. No worries about longhouse renos as they take over a longhouse and rehab it as a whole. When it is complete, they open it to guests and move on to the next slated longhouse. According to Tikiman, the first longhouse renos will start this fall and the last renos should be complete by June/July 2013. Hot tub/pool reno should be late this fall or early winter. GCH renovations are the big "who knows??" but that would not impact your stay greatly. If news should come out otherwise, you can always change resorts.

Disney always seems to do a great job making sure their guests are not too distracted by construction as they want everyone to feel the magic. Years ago we stayed at the CR in a wing room during renovations and other than seeing a few workmen in the distance and tarping over sliding glass doors, one would never know anything was even going on.

The Refurbs are simply room refreshes with wall coverings, flooring, furnishings, and perhaps upgrades in the washrooms. I've been there during them and as a guest you don't notice them. They close the longhouse they are working in and you aren't affected.

There are no major renovations announced just rumors at this point. So I'd go ahead and book and not worry about it all.

I know Tikiman has said that the Volcano pool area may be worked on as early as this fall but I sort of doubt it will happen until next year because the main courtyard pool at GF is being worked on this fall and I highly doubt they'd close both simultaneously (keep in mind, GF guests are being invited to swim at the Poly while the courtyard pool is being worked on).

And even though the GF courtyard pool is supposed to reopen sometime between late November and mid December, I'd expect they'd wait until after New Year to do a major refurb on the Poly Volcano pool, otherwise the pool would be closed during peak holiday season, which would not be in Disney's best interests (much lower opportunity cost for Disney to close the pool during value season in Jan., especially given the Hawaii building will be closed then anyway).

On the other hand, they may put the hot tub in some time this fall (or they may simply wait to do this until they do the rest of the pool refurb - it would seem more efficient to do the latter, but Tikiman has been hinting that the hot tub may go in earlier than the rest of the pool refurb).

We just returned from a great stay at the Poly. (our 4th visit since 07)

We were upgraded to a MK View in Tuvalu.

I can honestly tell you that its time for the Poly to get a face-lift.

Our balcony was flled with chipped wood and paint, the room needed to be freshly painted and new floor coverings need to be installed.

The hallways also need new floor coverings and freshly painted walls. The elevators need to be upgraded.

I am not sure what is going on with the GCH...but look for something to happen.

I didnt play house inspector on my vacation, but I do play one in real life...... mold and asbestos could be a big factor in the GCH based on the age of the building.

Also, several screws are loose in the stairway leading up to the second floor by the Bou-Tiki Shop. (quite visible underneath the stairs.)

If I were a betting man, I would be some kind of major renovation is gonna happen in the GCH within 12 - 18 months.

Also, the Valcano pool is just way too small for the resort layout. There is room to expand the pool out towards the lake.

All of the above would not stop us from staying there in 2014. Next year we are back to the YC/BC. (gonna try and rotate resorts each trip)

Just my 2 cents.
