October 1: LIDS Step Forward to Curetuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) kicks off at Jarvis Creek Park on Oct. 1, 2016, with registration at 9 a.m. and a 10 a.m. start. On this day, individuals and families affected by TSC will join together to increase awareness of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and share their stories of hope. Whether you are close to the disease or simply looking for an inspiring charity event, LIDS Step Forward to Cure TSC walkathon is a great way to experience the power of standing together and giving back to the community. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in vital organs; TSC is also the leading genetic cause of both autism and epilepsy. With your help, we can be heroes to the 50,000 Americans with TSC as well as their caregivers and loved ones. Join the excitement! We provide lunch, kids' activities, TSC resources and much, much more! This year's walk promotes super heroes across the country. b The Sea Pines Resort will host Hounds on the Harbour, featuring a pup cake walk, agility course, a dog/owner look-a-like contest, vendors with dog-related services and dogs for adoption from the Hilton Head Humane Association at Harbour Town. Saturdays: Head over to Caretta Coffee Co. in Coligny Plaza for Art on the Corner from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday to discover artwork by local artists. Each week Caretta Coffee Co. will feature a different artist, who will showcase their work out on the patio. Guests can enjoy a beer in their beer garden, wine on the terrace or stop by for some coffee or lunch and buy amazing artwork. Proceeds will go to the Coastal Discovery Museum and support the Savannah Veterans Center. On October 1: 11:00am to 5:00pm the Burgers and Brew Festival returns to Shelter Cove Community Park! This fun-filled festival local restaurants will be cooking their best sliders to compete for your vote; meanwhile in the beer garden, guests have a chance to taste 20 different brews. The sliders can be beef, chicken, pork or seafood. The Kid Zone will have plenty of moon bounces and games for your child's entertainment at a minimal fee. October 1: Art League of Hilton Head's annual fundraising benefit "Got Art?" on Oct. 1, 2016 at 4 p.m. promises to make collectors out of art enthusiasts. Each $100 ticket admits two guests into the event and participation in a live drawing that guarantees the ticket holder one original piece of art. Only 100 tickets will be sold. This fun and popular event is sure to be a sell out! What makes this night special is that ticket holders go home with an original piece of local art created and donated by Art League member artists. Artwork may include paintings, drawings, photography, collage, jewelry, ceramic and sculpture; each valued at $200 or more. Not knowing when your name will be called adds a certain element of fun and suspense. You never know which pieces will still be available when it's your turn to choose. It always proves to be a lively night. Evening preview and reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres followed by the exciting main event drawing. On October 1: join the Pregnancy Center & Clinic of the Low Country as they host the 26th Annual Gala, "Seasons of Life," with guest stars, Al & Lisa Robertson of "Duck Dynasty!" The evening will begin with a private cocktail reception from 5:30-6 p.m. for patrons to meet Al & Lisa, receive a photo opportunity and an autographed book, "A New Season," about their story of sharing hope for any situation. Tuesdays: The Coastal Discovery Museum will have a "Shrimp Trawling Expedition" on Tuesdays, Sept. 6-Oct. 25, 2016 from 10 a.m. until noon. This two-hour interactive cruise will take you from Harbour Town Marina toward South Beach where you'll have a chance to see how a shrimp trawler works - and find out about all the critters that can be found in its nets. During the trip you'll see lots of beautiful sights and you're likely to see dolphins at play! The vessel is a magnet for wildlife! Once we arrive at the shrimping grounds, we will lower our net and trawl for shrimp. Then - we will pull up the nests! We will take a close, hands-on look at everything we catch. October 4: "The Role of Women in the History and Development of Hilton Head Island" will be presented at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2016 as a part of the Tuesday Morning History Program at The Heritage Library. There were many strong women in Hilton Head Island's History whose roles were defined by plantation life, isolation and war. Women on the island faced challenging but rewarding opportunities. They were pioneers who led the way and fought to establish a healthy lifestyle. This 1 and 1/2-hour presentation will discuss the roles and contributions of women while looking at the history of the island during the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the isolation after the Union Army left and the development era to modern times. Join us as we discuss the history and the women who survived, contributed, and excelled on this island. $10 per person; reservations are required. Oct. 4-23, 2016, the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina will present "Pride and Prejudice," based on Jane Austen's most famous novel, at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays-Saturdays; will special matinee showings on select Sundays. Finding a husband is hardly Elizabeth Bennet's most urgent priority. But with four sisters, an overzealous match-making mother, and a string of unsuitable suitors, it's difficult to escape the subject. When the independent-minded Elizabeth meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr. Darcy, she is determined not to let her feelings triumph over her own good sense-but the truth turns out to be more elusive than it seems. In a society where subtle snubs and deceit proliferate, is it possible for Elizabeth and Darcy to look beyond his pride and her prejudice to make the best match of all? Thursdays: The best live local music combines with gourmet food and fantastic sunset water views for the return of Music & Taste on the Harbour, Sept. 8-Oct. 20, 2016. Local bands will take the stage, while select Shelter Cove restaurants offer appetizers and drink specials. Entrance to the event is free and it is weather permitting. No coolers or outside food are allowed, and limited seating is available. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned good donations for the Deep Well Project. October 7 - 8: The Daufuskie Island Rum Company will present the Daufuskie Island Rum and Strum Music Festival Oct. 7-8, 2016. Featuring great food and drinks to enjoy while six local bands perform from 6-10 p.m. on Friday and noon-8 p.m. on Saturday. Onsite camping is also available. October 8: The Kiwanis Clubs of Hilton Head Island will present the 32nd Annual Chili Cookoff at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, 70 Honey Horn Dr., on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., rain or shine with all-you-can-eat chili! This year's event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each. There will be live music and an area with free children's games and activities, including a water slide, so parents can fully enjoy the festivities. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 or at the event for $20. Each ticket entitles the holder to as many samples of chili as they want. They will be available at several locations all across the island, including The Coastal Discovery Museum, Burke's Pharmacy, Reilley's South, Honey Baked Ham (Bluffton), Bluffton Pharmacy, User Friendly and any Kiwanis member. October 11 & 25: Fabulous Fibers" Artist Demonstration and Discussion with the award-winning Art Quilters of the Lowcountry at the Coastal Discovery Museum. October 15-23: The 12th Annual Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival will return to Old Town, Oct. 15-23, 2016. This weeklong festival presents a myriad of activities, which showcase locally harvested seafood, Lowcountry cuisine and the area's rich history, culture, art and Southern hospitality. October 15: Join us for the 2nd Annual Collin Stokes Fishing Tournament on Oct. 15, 2016 at Shelter Cove Marina from 5-8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the largest redfish and largest trout! Featuring several auction and raffle items! $125 entry fee per boat. There is a captain's meeting on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 at 5 p.m. at the Shelter Cove Marina Store. This event was created to support the Waddell mariculture Center and everything they do, such as re-stocking redfish, trout, cobia and making sure our waters remain in pristine condition. October 20-22, join in as Hilton Head Island welcomes The Arkhaios Film Festival. The 4th Annual Arkhaios Cultural Heritage and Archaeology Film Festival will take place at Coligny Theatre. October 20-14, USTA South Carolina State Combo Tennis Championships. Hosted by Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center. Matches will be played at a variety of courts in the area.

Oct. 21, 2016, the "Goonies" will play from 7:45-10 p.m. as a part of the Dive In Movies at the Island Rec. Center, in which guests can float in the pool while watching a movie and play games and activities. Floats welcome. Pizza, popcorn and drinks will be for sale. October 22: The Hilton Head Plantation Craft Workshop Fall Sale to benefit of Hospice Care of the Lowcountry will feature hundreds of unique handmade gifts at reasonable prices, including jewelry, babies and children's toys, sweaters and rugs, Christmas tablecloths, napkins, wreaths and other ornaments, all kinds of scarves, and a delicious bake sale that sells out each year. The event will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 at St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church, 45 Beach City Rd.

October 22: The Hilton Head Plantation Craft Group was formed by Hilton Head Plantation women more than 30 years ago. Initially, they were one of the Hilton Head Island craft groups that participated in an annual sale for the benefit of the Hilton Head Hospital. When the Hospital became a for-profit company, the group subsequently donated its profits to a few different charities until 1996 when they voted to support Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, a not-for-profit organization. As of the end of last year, they contributed $203,000 to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry.

October 22: VegFest, South Carolina's first veggie festival, at Shelter Cove Community Park. October 25: "Pirates of the Lowcountry" will be presented on Oct. 25, 2016 as a part of the Tuesday Morning History Program at The Heritage Library. October 27: Fire'em up and cruise in from 5-8 p.m. at the Shelter Cove Towne Centre every fourth Thursday of the month. This classic car show takes place on Shelter Cove Lane waterside overlooking Broad Creek. No costs, no reservations. There will be awards and a 50/50 raffle. October 28 - November 6: The 2016 Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance return Oct. 28-Nov. 6, 2016 and will include major international names in automotive collecting and racing when the event returns for its 15th annual celebration. Events include a Club Car Showcase, Aero Expo, Concours D'Elegance, Savannah Speed Classic, Bluffton State of Mind Driving Tour, Flights and Fancy Aeroport Gala and the Hilton Head Auction, among others.
