Wheelchairs to rent at Disneyland???

Does Disneyland rent wheelchairs and if they do, do they have powered wheelchairs so that the person in the wheelchair can be somewhat independent?

We are going to Disneyland in February as my Mother wanted to take all the grandkids to Disneyland. Now, however, my Mom has some health issues that she is just getting diagnosed where she has a hard time breathing if she exerts herself too much.

Anyway, I can't see anything on the Disneyland website.

I believe they do have the motorized scooters.

but if you are staying within walking distance. renting from an outside source may be better. the walk in and out can wear out people without health issues. we usually make arrangements to rent a scooter from alan's wheelchairs. they drop it off at the hotel and pick up after we leave. have done this 3-4 times for my father

They have motorized scooters and wheelchairs to rent at the parks. The cost is something like $35-40 per day for the scooter, wheelchairs are considerably less. You pay a deposit which is refunded to you when you bring it back. You can take the scooters back and forth between Disneyland and California Adventure, but not DTD. And the scooters wheelchairs will not be allowed on the monorail or the Disneyland Railroad. They have a key for the scooter you can take with you if you go on either of those or when you are on a ride so that nobody can steal it. If someone steals the wheelchair (not very likely) you can get a free replacement at the rental place. Which incidentally is right in the main turnstiles, to your right as you enter Disneyland.

My fil has severe mobility issues due to his heart problems and we rent him one each trip. I do agree with the previous poster that if getting to the parks is a problem, renting from an outside source is a good option. For instance if you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier, the walk can take up to 15 minutes just getting to and from the hotel/parks. So make sure you know exactly what type of walking commute you are in for from whatever hotel you stay at.

Thanks for the information. I have passed it onto my parents to pursue. The one page I found says the electric wheel chairs at Disneyland are $35 per day. We are only going to be there (Anaheim) for 5 days (Disndyland/California Adventure 3) so I can't imagine it costing anywhere near 175 for the five days through Alan's. We will see though.

Yes, I am betting Alan's will be cheaper. At Disneyland, you pay $50 when you rent it, then you get the $15 refunded when you return it. There is also always the possiblity that they would run out of scooters. I have never had that happen in my 10 trips to DL but its always a worry. If you went with an outside rental, that wouldn't be a concern. Good luck!

I fell and hurt my ankle on our last trip and ended up renting one of the scooters. You can't take it into downtown disney at all. Only in DL and DCA, but not out of the esplande area at all. You are probably better off renting it from somewhere else if she is going to really be needing it all the time. I hobbled back to our hotel across the street after returning my scooter.

I just wanted to mention 3 things:

• what you are looking for is called a power mobility scooter (usually just called a scooter) or an ECV. Those are driven with a handlebar, similar to steering a bicycle. A power (electric) wheelchair is different; it is driven with a joystick. They are not available for rent in any parks and most outside rental places will not rent them out unless the person has their own (it takes more practice/skill to use one).
• There is a Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities available for park guests. This is a link to the Disney page that has information for guests with mobility concerns , including a list of attractions where she will not have to transfer either to a ride car or to a wheelchair. The railroad and monorail are listed as being wheelchair/ECV accessible.

  Downtown Disney® District: Wheelchair rentals are not offered in Downtown Disney® District.

Alan's is the company I have seen listed most often for Disneyland. I don't have any direct experience with Disneyland, but agree with the posters about the advantages of renting from an off-site company. The reasons already posted are the same reasons we recommend doing it for WDW.

rode the monorail with the evc. one evc per trip. bit of a loading procedure but the evc does go on the monorail.

did not use the evc on the train. the sign said wheelchair access in tomorrowland or neworleans i believe. we got on in mainstreet so left the evc parked there with the strollers.
