After reading the new rules for loading ECVs on buses it sounds like what is already a time consuming process could be made longer. I am wondering if there are any loaner or rental wheelchairs or scooters at DTD. I have never noticed any.....but I have never looked for any either. We will be at WDW in November staying at Boardwalk. I don't plan to go to AK and can get to the other 3 parks without a bus, but we do plan to go to DTD. After staying at Beach Club this summer, I know that the buses for the Epcot area resorts can sometimes make multiple stops, and on our last trip the longest wait we had was consistently for DTD. I am thinking if I understand the new policy correctly that it will be even longer so I am wondering if it might be better to just not take the ECV with us and get another one on that end. If we were just going to Earls then I would get by with just my cane. But if we tried to do any shopping I would not be able to manage that.

The only issue I would see is this... would you require a seat on the bus? Depending on how busy it is, you can not guarantee that there will be a seat available when you board (unless you wait for one). As such, you may be stuck standing.

Would I "need" a seat - probably not. My balance isn't great, but I would have my cane so hopefully somebody would offer a seat - if not, if I had ahold of a seat or something that height I could make it - If I had to hang on to a strap above it would be tougher. Although maybe with the cane in one hand and a strap in the other I would have enough points of contact to get there.

But walking down to World of Disney is totally out of the question. I usually park outside of it and even just walking around in the store is taxing - but easier than maneuvering the scooter through the people.

So yeah - I could get there - but my question is - would I be able to do anything once I got off the bus?

They rent both ECVs and wheelchairs at DTD.
Wheelchairs are available in larger quantity than ECVs, but there area small number of ECVs available.
Wheelchair rental is in the Marketplace area near the restrooms that are behind the Once Upon a Toy store and sort of behind the clothing store called Tren-D. I know that ECVs are available there.

On the West side, wheelchairs can be rented near DisneyQuest, in the area across from Cirque du Soleil. I am not sure if they have ECVs there.

The wheelchair rental fee is $10.00 per day. The ECV rental fee of $45.00 per day plus a $100 refundable credit card deposit is required per unit rented for Downtown Disney. The rented unit must be returned to the original rental location to receive a credit card deposit refund.
The reason for the high deposit at DD is probably because it would be relatively easy to leave the area with one.
