I'm going on a girls only trip in mid june and one of the women that is going needs to be in a wheelchair.

I've never paid much attention to this, since I've never been to DL with a person in a wheelchair, I was wondering, where do we enter attractions? Is our party going to get split up, like half in the stand-by line, and the other half in another line for people with disabilities?

You will want to go to city hall for a guest asst. pass and a map of where you have a wheelchair entrances!!

Guests in wheelchairs, ECVs and who are obviously handicapped do not need a GAC. The GAC is only for hidden disabilities like vision, hearing and persons who cannot do stairs. There is also the Stroller As A Wheelchair GAC for kids who are disabled and in strollers.

That is my list I made for someone and is based on my experience or from talking to the CM greeter for the ride.

Thank you very much for that thread!

Now, we will have a party of 8...can we all go through that same line as her? I don't think she would be comfortable riding by herself.

Nope. The disabled person and 5 persons will have to wait for the rest of the party to meet them on the loading dock for rides. On Dumbo 6 people would wait while the two waited in line. If you can get a second disabled person then you all could go at the same time or the next disabled vehicle that is sent out.

IF a group has 8 people and two GACs or disabled guests then the CM could send up to 6 on the ride then later when it is time for another load of disabled guests to ride then send the rest of the party.

Either way someone is waiting.

Mechurchlady, we were always told (with my son who uses a wheelchair)that we also needed the GAC reguardless if he was in the chair or not I wish I had known this on our last trips would've saved us some time waiting in the long city hall lines!!! :)

Gotcha! Thanks for all your help!

I have been using a scooter in parks since March and now own my own scooter. I have been asked for the GAC only when I walked on but I showed my key and told them I did not want to drive the ECV into the tight spot. No problem.

If the child is in a stroller or a wheelchair that looks like a stroller they may get some guff. That is where the "Stroller as a Wheelchair" GAC comes into play and you would have to show that.

That said if your kid is in the chair and not walking then the CM should not ask for the GAC. If he does then ask for a lead who will properly educate the CM.

If you ever need anything let me know as I been doing a lot of research of the parks from the disabled point of view. I will be going back in June and cannot wait for the Sun Wheel, woot.
