Couple questions concerning rentals ...

My daughter has a condition called tarsal coalition where a few of her bones in her foot are fused together making walking for long periods painful.
Our biggest concern with planning a trip is making sure she if comfortable.
After about 3 hours at the zoo the other day she was in pain and limping My thought is we would most likely need it for her after lunch time or hopefully with rests in between ride and shows she may not even need one. We do plan to bring her wrap and she wears orthotics.

Currently what is the rate for wheel chair rentals ?

Do you need to have a dr note to rent one ? (not sure if there is a limited number saved for those really needing them )

If you pre pay for the week and do not require it all days can you be credited ? I know last time with our stroller we did get a credit for the day we decided to stay at the resort.

She is about 55 lbs and 51 inches tall - possibly a double stroller rental would work if I remember correctly they have the kind that are like a flat bed lol but not sure if they would accomidate her size.

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

You do not want to rent a wheel chair from Disney as all they have are adult chairs.

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information, including in Post #2 where people rent wheelchairs or who have other mobility/stamina situations. You might ask one of the off-site rental locations about pediatric chairs.

Also, there is a possibility that you can rent a special needs stroller and get a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) to allow us of the stroller as if it were a wheelchair; information about the GAC is in Post #6.

Or, if you want an easier route to the FAQs, click on the link in my signature.

I agree with renting off site. That way you will have it for those long walks back to the bus or your car after you leave the park. You will also have it at your resort in case you need it.

I have a son who sounds very similiar to your child. On our last trip I researched and researched etc. We opted to rent offsite for the duration of our trip. We rented a medical stroller that really looked like a umbrella stroller for a bigger taller child. It was cheaper than renting from disney and we had it at the resort as well. It was a godsend for us because for our son the apin would have not allowed him to walk any part of the trip without pain. When we arrived the stroller was waiting for us and I just dropped it off at luggage when we left for home. I believe we paid $115 for 10 days(cheaper than disney by $20 or so I believe). When our son was 5 we knew he had trouble with the pain and needed a stroller for our trip but this past Aug. even with wraps, orthotics, advil, ice packs the pain was just not managable with the amount of walking that exists. We got a GAC so his medical stroller was used as a wheelchair and it was great. Look into this option it really worked for us. The stroller folded just like an umbrella stroller as well so it was great. At the time our child would not use a wheelchair willingly. I miss thoses days. Now he has a wheelchair to use daily for school. If you do use a wheelchair at disney you do not need a note to rent the wheelchair. I'm sorry I cna't answer the other questions.

You mention a trip to the zoo that had your daughter in pain, so if you do local outings or other vacations, you may want to look into purchasing a stroller. I started out researching rentals and we ended up buying a used Maclaren Major Elite which has been wonderful for our daughter. Looks just like a stroller, folds up compactly like an umbrella stroller and is relatively lightweight. Just sharing another option to renting if you think your daughter might have need for it another time. Enjoy your trip :)
