Before our WDW trip, we are going on a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. Can anyone recommend a company that rents manual wheelchairs? I don't normally use one, but plan to at Disney due to the distances, and on-board due to instability.

Special Needs at Sea-https://www.specialneedsatsea.com/

provides rental mobility equipment for many cruise lines at Port Everglades.

You might find it cheaper to buy a manual chair then to rent it. Personal mobility equipment flies for free and does not count to any baggage limitations.

Be very aware that, unless you have an accessible cabin aboard ship, you may face some issues, especially if you cannot step up and over about 4 inches, such as to enter the bathroom in your stateroom and, on some ships, entering your stateroom.

Most standard cruise ship cabins are not known for being large. You may find it a little challenging to get a manual chair into the cabin or find a place to park a chair in the cabin, especially without folding it up.

Power wheelchairs and scooters pretty much don’t fit into standard cabins or, in many situations, even fit through the cabin door.

Often, ships do not have an accessible cabin available for you to move into. Usually, ships have less than 3% of there cabins as accessible- they are often in high demand.

Many ships require you to take your chair or scooter into the cabin. They cannot be left in the passageway and often there is simply no where convenient to leave a chair outside your cabin.

Just to clarify: I’m not sure Special Needs at Sea has an Orlando location. They might very well have one at Port Canaveral. You’d have to ask, especially if you were thinking about picking up in one location and returning to another.

Gold does not have a Fort Lauderdale location.

Unlike Orlando, there are not a plethora of large mobility equipment rental outfits catering primarily to short-term tourists.

You might also ask your local church or other social service organization if you could borrow a wheelchair for your travels.

A single rental for both legs of your vacation will be hard,
particularly for a WDW / Ft. Lauderdale combo. WDW/Port Canaveral can be worked out but Ft. Lauderdale is too far. The best option is probably 2 separate rentals -- one of the local Orlando vendors for WDW and www.specialneedsatsea.com for the cruise.

Much cheaper and a whole lot easier to purchase one. $100 new or see if someone you know will let you borrow theirs. Many family's may have one that they don't use daily. If you purchase one YOU will not be using it daily once you get home.

If you are looking for a manual wheelchair, I would recommend buying one. Once my insurance no longer covered the monthly rental of my wheelchair, I was able to purchase the same one on Amazon (for about $110)....insurance was paying about $50 a month?!?!

If you are flying into MCO, Gold does offer a pickup option if you are using a transportation option that allows for stops. But as others have said, you may be better off just buying one.

Late to the party, but just wanted to remind our OP that a Rollator may be a great option for them - they are easy to fold up, (and don't take a lot of space folded) lightweight, offer a place to sit when needed, and something to hang on to while walking. Plus, that handy little basket under the seat - can't forget that!

Just like a wheelchair, it will fly for free as medical equipment, and can be gate checked at the aircraft door.

They start at about $60, and are found at Walgreens, CVS, and of course Amazon 🙂

Yeah, we got one for DH's mom that actually folds up to about the size of a golf club. Maybe slightly.larger, but not much and she loves it.
