Hi from the U.K.
We are off to Las Vegas in May and Disney in Nov and it looks like I'm going to need a wheelchair as I can only walk short distances at the moment.
Can anyone tell me where we could hire a lightweight folding wheelchair to pick up when we arrive and if we have to take one with us are we expected to tip for assistance at the airport and if so how much would be ok.
Thanks for any help,
Carol

That's an interesting point about tipping. I've flown a few times and have always gate checked my manual wheelchair and it never occured to me that I should tip them. I've gotten the impression that it wasn't expected. But if you would feel better tipping them I'm sure they'd appreciate it. I do make sure that cab drivers who store my wheelchair in the trunk of thier cab get a nice tip.

I assume you have some experiance with a manual chair. To get around the parks in it will require alot of effort for someone who doesn't use it often. Maybe you should consider an electric scooter? Anyway I'm sure you know what is best for your situation.

Here is a link to Deb Wills' sight and the part about the ECV FAQ. She recommends Care Medical. I checked on thier website and they do rent manual chairs and the scooters. Both can be delivered to your hotel room.

Welcome to disABILTIES.
it looks like you actually have 2 questions: a wheelchair at the airport and a wheelchair at the resort/parks.
For the airport part, contact the airline you will be flying on. Most of them have some disability information on their web sites with a phone number to call.
For the parks, DIS posters have used and recommend the following:
Care Medical:

Walker Mobility:

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

I got a great deal from Walker on the scooter.

i would contact the special requests line at the resorts. The number is 407-939-7807. You may be able to get a wheelchair at the resort for the length of your stay.

You mentioned going to Las Vegas. I would recommend that you get either a wheelchair or scooter for that too. There is quite a bit of walking and well worth it too! I went there for the first time last May and had a great time. One of the useful sites I found was www.vegas.com. I think if you do a search on Yahoo or Google or one of those places that you will find other sites.

Have a great time on both of your trips!

I am getting a little miffed at Walker.......I have a reservation for May.......I emailed them last Saturday requesting the measurement of the seat and back of the ecv. I picked up some Disney material for $1 a yard and wanted to make a tie on cover for the back and a pad for the seat. I explained that it was removable and would do no damage to the ecv.......no reply.......emailed them again Thurs.....no reply.......just called and left a message.....hope I hear something tomorrow, otherwise, I'm switching to someone who will tell me what I want to know. I mean, how hard is it to make a few measurements!
