I was going to post a question about renting a scooter in WDW - but we just took care of that - we ordered one for DSIL who's at WDW now and can no longer handle all the walking (he broke his back 5 years ago - walking is still a challenge).
So his scooter will be delivered to his resort tomorrow morning. I hope it works out. (i hope they're able to get it into their rental car )

So that's not my question.

Rather i'm wondering about renting a wheelchair for my 85 year old mother for our Disney Dream cruise in October.

I was thinking i should order it just in case. That's a really big ship and i'm not sure she'll be up to walking it the entire time.

I know nothing about wheelchairs.
the DCL concierge suggested two wheelchair rental companies: CareVacations CSA and Brevard Medical.

I see on their websites that there is a 'standard wheelchair' and a 'companion wheelchair'

the standard wheelchair looks like every wheelchair i've ever seen in a hospital - with very large back wheels.

The companion wheelchair has 4 small wheels (so the wheelchair can't be propelled by the person sitting in the wheelchair).

so my question is, which is better?
is one easier to push than the other?
is one easier to store in the room than the other?

what would you rent for a situation like this?

by the way, i can't rent her an ECV because she's going blind, and can't see well enough to be able to drive an ECV. So it has to be a wheelchair.

any advice, tips, etc are most welcome!!!

Contact Walker Mobility and talk to them, the girls there are very friendly and will answer aky questions you may have. They also may be able to rent one for the cruise. I always rent from them for the parks.

I work in a hospital and only have experience with the regular wheelchair with the larger wheels. I think either one would be fine and I can't see that one would push any differently than the other, but the one with 4 small wheels might be lighter weight.

thanks! we just rented a scooter from Walker Mobility for DSIL (it was easier for us to contact them from overseas, since DD is there with a phone that doesn't work all that well in the US)...

I agree that Walker can help you with that. I do believe they don't rent themselves but have a contract with Brevard, but call to verify that. I've only ever had Walker arrange my ECV for the cruises. They were extremely pleasant and helpful.

thanks! when i looked at their website, they only refer to the orlando area, but if you've used them for your cruises, i'll give them a call.
