Wheelchair accessible transfer to/from Port Canaveral

Hi - I will also post this on the cruise line thread. We are excited about our upcoming Disney Fantasy cruise. We need to decide between bringing power or manual wheelchair for our DS15 (he has cerebral palsy).

We usually bring his manual chair so we have options for transfers. A power chair is more limiting for transportation but will give him his independence...but will be our first time flying with the power chair etc.

We have 2 nights pre-cruise and 2 nights post-cruise. Post-cruise is at the Swan, and we're still deciding about pre-cruise. It may even depend on transportation (i.e. say on Disney property to use the bus transfers, which we haven't done before).

Does anyone know if DCL buses go to/from the Swan? I don't think so, but will be happy to find out I am wrong!

Can anyone recommend wheelchair accessible tranportation options from Orlando to the port and airport?

We're relieved we haven't had to cancel - he is still in rehab after major orthopedic surgery in November, and he's had some major complications. However, the surgeon has given him the go-ahead and his whole team thinks this will be great motivation for the next few weeks!

Thanks!

I believe DCL buses DO pick-up/drop-off at the Swan/Dolphin now. You can call DCL to confirm that, but I'm fairly certain that was added within the past year or so.

I would think DCL transfers are going to be your most convenient option. Cost is $35 per person each way ($70 round trip per person) -- so depending on the size of your party, it may not be the most economical.

I honestly don't know about limo services with a power chair, though I'm thinking most probably do not have ability to accommodate that without challenges (transferring and cargo space for the chair). Hopefully someone else will have some input.

Good luck with his rehab and enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for confirming that!

OP, while DCL buses have service to/from the Swan and Dolphin, I don't believe the resort Magical Express operates to these hotels. You would need transportation to/from MCO (assuming you are flying). If you change resorts, ME services all WDW-owned on-site resorts, and DCL transfers are available as well.

I am not sure if you thought of this. It is really important that you take the joystick off the chair and take it with you into the cabin. To many times these joysticks have been damaged. I always take mine off and wrap it in a sweater or something softer and make sure it is protected up in the over head cabin. I bring a fold able bag to put it in it.

Also remember your Allan keys. I forgot mine once and it was the time when they damaged the back of my chair and I needed Allan keys to move it back into position.

I Flew American Airlines and they would not provide me with a simple Allan Key. They said they would have to call someone from the outside to come fix it. Better prepared than sorry :)
