Getting psyched up for the princess half and would love fresh music on the ipod for a mental boost! What are some of the songs you have that get you pumped up? Here's my cheesey favorite - the theme song from Flashdance! Can't help it, it just makes me smile!

I have several, and there are from a few different genres. I can't remember them all, but the first three that come to mind are: Cupid Shuffle, Party in the USA, and Disco Inferno. I think the reason I remember these and have them on my iPod is because they were all played during last years Princess, so I automatically relate them to that experience. It was such a fun time that whenever I hear them, it brings back good memories and puts me in a good mood.

Some of the others that I have are:
Electric Slide
Fergalicious
Get Ready for This
Pour Some Sugar On Me
She's Country
Toxic
Sweet Home Alabama
Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah (the Miley Cyrus version)

I don't run with my ipod much anymore - can't hear the garmin beep its intervals - but when I do, the lists can vary. Except for one song.

"I Run For Life" by Melissa Etheridge

While yes, it was written about breast cancer, it can work for so many other things, and the chorus sums it all up for me.

I have so many, I couldn't even begin to get a full list.

My absolute faves are:

Just a Girl by No Doubt
Closer by Neo
Yeah/Toxic remix by Usher and Britney Spears
Rocky theme song
I Like It by Enrique Iglesias
Techno remix of Phantom of the Opera
Hey Mama by BEP
All Latin Music!!!!!!

Lots of others, but I can't think of anything right now.

The one I had at the end of a playlist was Dig a Little Deeper from Princess and the Frog. If I was tired, all I had do to was hear the chorus and I was thinking I can do it!

I love John Williams Oympic Fanfare...

Other favorites...
Queen Don't stop me now
Make a man out of you from Mulan
Beastie Boys She's Crafty and Brass Monkey
ELO Mr Blue SKy
Most songs on Gross Pointe Blank soundtrack
Yaz Situation

and a couple mellow ones
The Sound of Music - and also Climb Every Mountain
Chris Tomlin How Great is our God - relaxes me and get a little praise in with my running

Just added..
Defying Gravity from Wicked
Big Audio Dynamite
Clash

And I need more...thanks for this thread. I do love my broadway tunes and seem to have lots of stuff from the 80's...music of my youth, but always looking!
I hav

I have the most random mix of songs on my iPod, but I looooooooooove running to the "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and the Machine. It's so good! When she sings, "Run fast for your mmother, run fast for your father. Run for your children and your sisters and your brothers" I can't help but want to sprint!

I wanted to add a couple Meat Loaf songs to this. There are 2 on my playlist and no matter what machine I'm on, I want to run when they come up. They're "Bat Out of Hell" and "I Would Do Anything for Love". They're long songs and I can easily get into a running groove with them.

I rarely listen to music while I am running, and even then, only if I'm on a treadmill and can't stand what is being shown on TV or being played over the speakers in the gym. That said, what I do listen to does a good job of getting me running fast to get off that damn machine as fast as I can. Band list includes:

Disturbed
Rise Against
Five Finger Death Punch
Clash
Avenged Sevenfold
Linkin Park
Suicidal Tendencies
Eminem
Metallica
Stone Sour
Bullet for My Valentine
Flogging Molly
Dropkick Murphys
Slipknot
Black Flag

Not exactly soft and uplifting music, but it does get the blood flowing. :)

I have a bunch of the Glee songs on my ipod, plus Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, some Bon Jovi and some Toby Keith.

It's random.

I plan on adding a few Disney songs, and the Rocky theme for crossing the finish line... lol

I listen to songs I can sing to inorder to keep my mind off the running I am doing:rotfl2:...so mostly Broadway shows and Soundtracks:

Glee
Wicked
Mama Mia
Hairspray
Rent
Then of course a little Disney mixed in from Enchanted, Little Mermaid, Wishes, Lion King, Mary Poppins

dare you to move - switchfoot, forgot about this one. Love it on many many levels.

also, love Fat Bottomed Girls from queen, cuz we make the rockin' world go round.

Julie - love the Fat Bottomed Girls! I think that's on mine, too.

Love the divine shuffling that occurred as I approached the finish line of my first 10K in Nov. - Prince's "Baby, I'm A Star"!

John, I have a funny feeling we are close to the same age and had the same teenage years. There is nothing like a good Clash, Metallica, Eminem or Suicidal Tendencies song to kick it into high gear! :thumbsup2

I usually listen to podcasts and don't own much music on my iPhone, but on my last half-marathon, I put on Pandora and a channel based on Black-Eyed Peas music, and that went very well.

When I started running last year I never realized how many songs there were that talked about air and not having enough. I quickly yanked No Air (Glee version) off my iPod. The same for an all time favorite, Kick Drum Heart by The Avett Brothers. I love those boys, but I can't listen to a song about my heart pounding out of my chest when I'm trying to run.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Especially the Florence & The Machine song. I've got her cd. I'll have to load that one onto the Shuffle. Will also have to add Defying Gravity.

My very favorite inspirational song is by Elliott Yamin. It's called Free. The words are incredible and I always kick it up 10 notches when I hear it. I plan to listen to it several times during the race. Here are some lyrics.

You'll be free
Nothing's impossible
Free
You've achieved the unexplainable
Free
I believe that miracles
Happen to those
Who refuse to be told
They can happen when we least expect
So we let ourselves be free

It's difficult to hold on
So easy to let go
And take the road that's least resistant
But you gotta be persistent
(I) lead and never follow
(I) don't wait for tomorrow
(I) got to do it today

Over the last month I've had to do my long runs in the dark so I've opted to not use my iPod. Surprisingly, I've gotten used to the rhythm of my own breathing. So I don't know if I'll use the iPod too much during the race. If I do, here are some of the songs that I like the most.

Free - Elliott Yamin
Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars (love most of his songs on the cd)
Sunshine Song - Jason Mraz (from the Beautiful Mess: Live on Earth)
The Remedy - Jason Mraz (same cd as above)
Butterfly - Jasn Mraz (again, same cd)
Gold Digger - Glee version
Come On Get Higher - Matt Nathanson
Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners
At the Beach - The Avett Brothers
Say Hey - Michael Franti
Anything, Anything - Dramarama
Bar-Ba-Sol - David Cook
Earthquake - Family Force 5
Don't Rain on My Parade - Glee version
50 Ways - Sons of Sylvia
