I'm confused. You are upset that children are playing with their balls on the playground? Are you worried about your car because you mentioned it being near the playground?

Okay, am I the only one reading that second sentence and ROTFLMAO:rotfl:?

[/B]
I have now heard it all.
I say let the kids play with bows an arrows and slingshots with rocks. That'll keep all those parents moving quickly through that playground! If a kid is having a hard time hitting their mark hold the kid down and force them to eat an uncrustable followed by a bag of fruit snacks then let them try again.

*While I think certain foods are junk and HFCS is on my list I do not think that it is causing the demise of children playing on the playground*

I thought this post was sarcastic - meant to be funny, tongue in cheek. Was it serious??????? I'm honestly confused!

Nope that poster is as serious as a heart attack. Of course one can cure an actual heart attack by eating cinnamon or going to a chiropractor or is that something else? Hmmmm........maybe it was don't get your hair washed at the hair salon because I think you will get a broken neck? So many very interesting reads that would actually be funny if the poster wasn't as serious as they are. It is actually a little scary sometimes because someone might actually take the advice instead of seeking real medical advice.

Ooooppps! Almost got killed by a ball here- fed those kids fruit snacks so they can practice for the major leagues! Yankee Stadium here we come!:cheer2:

I have to give a little sympathy to the OP.
I have a stepson who just started 4th grade. So, not much older than many of the kids in the playground. I have not been able to play catch with him for the past two years. He plays baseball, and when he throws the ball, it has power behind it. He and his friends can get pretty wild, in a way totally normal for 9 year old boys.

I have, in fact, asked a group of boys to please stop playing ball close to the stands while we were watching a baseball game with our baby. Granted, this was a hard ball, but a 2nd or 3rd grade athletic boy can cause some damage with a ball.

If this really is a area that you have to walk through with a small child to get from carpool, then yes, I think it's a valid concern.

Well now I'm just embarrassed! I honestly thought it was a joke.

I agree with you 100% on ALL POINTS you have made. I feel your post is all I need to feel vindicated! Thank you! I don't even care if I don't get anyone else to agree with me :)

I also agree that the problem with childhood obesity is not lack of exercise but the crappy food that is given to them in huge portions.

At least you are honest about what you wanted...

The other week I noticed an article about recent studies of kids and activities, and they showed it wasn't actually true. Kids are getting the same amount of exercise and play as before. (I remember this b/c I put the blame on the pretend sugars that spike blood sugar that are in SO many snack and "kid" foods, and I loved that this article went hand in hand with it)

So honestly, I'm with the OP. Sounds like a bunch of kids getting too wild; I'd want them to tone it down a bit. Of course...if they are all eating Uncrustables and given fruit snacks (other than organic ones), it's probably the HFCS causing the way-too-hyper activity and violence of throwing balls too hard.

OK--NOT EVERY CHILD reacts adversely to HFCS. Seriously. I'm probably a complete 180 degrees from you on just about every parenting topic out there. With the 1 exception that we both want what is best for our own kids. But, your reality is not everyone else's. I think I can count 2 kids among DS's circle of friends and acquaintances who are sensitive to dyes, or HFCS. 2 KIDS. So while yes, there may be a problem with some of these artificial additives to some people, do not paint every single person on the planet with that broad brush of yours. It simply does not apply to every situation.

To the OP, you might be over-reacting just a bit. Especially if it's not during regular school hours, I'm guessing there's really no one there to monitor, so a ban would be very hard to enforce.

OP, honestly, I intend this in the nicest way possible, but maybe you should consider homeschool or another option for your family. This is a very minor situation and, believe me, if you are this upset about balls being thrown on the playground then you have many bumpy years of school ahead. I genuinely don't understand why you simply don't take your child home after school instead of allowing them to stay after school and play on the playground if the ball throwing bothers you to this extent.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Dang Momma...you are on a roll tonight.

I'm not sure how feeling "vindicated" is going to help you because the school has already informed you that it's not an issue they feel needs to change.. So it seems that any change will have to be on your part.. :confused3

Dear Parents,
It has come to our attention that some of your children are using the playground to...............PLAY! You can certainly understand why we need to stop this behavior immediately. Next thing you know, they are going to use the library for reading, the classroom for learning and the lunch room for eating! We need to stop the madness now. Please inform your children that they need to grow up. After all, they are in kindergarten now! There was a time and place for fun and games and that time has passed. Let them go home, watch TV, play video games and eat. We have to keep up our reputation of "typical Americans" and your children are in jeopardy of ruining our image.

Sincerely,
Helicopter Academy

Where is the acceptable food list?

Why did this thread have to go from answering the question and discussing the topic listed to outright making fun of the OP, stalking her previous posts, etc.?:confused3

I'm scared to have kids after some of the things I read here on the DIS. Not because I am afraid I can't raise them properly, but because of the parents of the other children they will be around.
