What's your dd wearing for Easter?

Easter always meant an entire new outfit for me, everything, including a new coat, hat, purse, shoes, even underwear! And, of course, a nice, new dress.

However dd9 really isn't into dresses that much. In years past I've bought her the entire Easter outfit, only to have her pull half it off before even getting to church--removes the hat, gloves, doesn't like the hair ornaments, etc., this was after she helped pick all that out!:lmao:

Well, Easter isn't the formal, dress-up ocassion it used to be, anyways. We go to church, then usually come home and change, then go out to a park for a family picnic, or some other casual place. Not like when I was a kid, you got dressed up and stayed dressed up the whole day, church, then out to eat, then visit relatives, etc. Also, that new outfit got a lot more than a day's wearings, it became my dress up outfit for all things spring, parties, etc. Well, things aren't like that anymore--people just don't dress up like they used to. Last year I bought dd a skirt, blouse, and matching capri pants. She wore the skirt and blouse (along with new shoes and purse) to church, then changed into the capris for the park.

This year dd wants the new American Girl outfit--Nikki's demin skirt and lace blouse, along with boots. I don't think it quite looks Easter-like, but she'd get a lot more use out of it. I'm trying to talk her into the American Girl dress on the cover of the latest magazine-the brown dress with pink top, matching headband. she makes gagging noises over it:confused3 I thought it looked grown up and classy. Well, she's the one wearing it, get her something she's comfortable in. So, what are other 9 year old girls wearing?

With all due respect, given your financial situation, and the fact that DD really isn't into Easter sunday outfits, I'd say that the outfit isn't worth AG's cost-could you reuse last year's outfit, or just put DD in nice pants and a new (thirft store? Target?) sweater?

Well, actually, what I meant was finding something like the outfits in AG. Last summer I put together an outfit from Target for $12 total that looked a lot like the orange/green outfit Jess wears. A pretty orange/yellow/green tie-dyed skirt and orange tee shirt. I was thinking of letting the AG guide my style, then find something on sale. I saw a nice demin skirt at an onlie outlet place for ~$3! It really looks quite like the AG demin skirt Nikki wears, we could get it, then hunt for a nice blouse, perhaps skip the cowboy boots, just some nice shoes she could get other uses out of!

Gotcha! Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I have a ds, too, but clothes don't matter to boys like they do for girls. Just something nice, about anything will do. We went past Gymobree a while ago, they had Easter outfits for boys, silly outfits! I mean, come on--all white outfits for a boy? Also, they were selling bunny headbands, I told ds if he got out of line I'd buy him a bunny headband and put it on him for Easter:rotfl2: You know, I think he half believes me!

Mom will wear the same dress she did the last 3 years in a row! Since I usually wear it just for Easter, who remembers?:confused3

I guess what I'm asking is--how important is dressing up for Easter now, especially for a young girl? Things are different than when I was little! I want dd to feel comfortable, like everyone else, but why spend a lot of money on something that's not even important to her?

Then again, there's relatively few dress up opportunities today. DD should at least have the thrill of a nice outfit. I'm pretty good at bargain shopping, Macy's has some great early bird sales, combine that with the coupon they often run in the paper and you can get great deals! Last year I got dd a beautiful blue dress, $75 marked down, with coupon, for $12:banana: Those kids of deals are what I'm looking for, just wonder what kind of style--seems dd has her own style sense now, just wish I could figure out what it is!

I haven't done anything that special with my dd's for Easter or Christmas for a few years now either. They are 12 and 10 and this year my dd picked out something cute from the L2 catalog and I duplicated it from Target :cool1:

My dd 12 hasn't decided what she wants yet but its usually something a little bit special that can also be worn to school/church and such after as well as any special occasions that come up.

We do "clean and fresh" not the new dress/hat and gloves that was so much fun when they were little.

I second the post about Macys. I got my girls dresses there marked down from $87 to $16 ea.

Of course, we don't want to buy something too far in advance, either. Last year I bought dd's Easter outfit mid-Feb, by Easter, she had outgrown it! Fortunately I had kept the tags, could return it and got something equally nice and inexpensive, but she's growing about an inch a day:confused3 My baby is now almost as tall as me!

My mother has made Easter dresses for my daughter (age 4 this year) every year and they are always beautiful, but she is definitely overdressed compared to everyone else. She makes my son a tie (age 7 this year) and he is never really pleased about it but wears it with a button down shirt and khakis. I think it's a shame that people don't dress up more for church but at least they're going, right?

I think it's probably more practical to get something for your daughter she would wear more than once. It burns me when something just sits in the closet and then they grow so fast so the window is so small for things like dress up clothes. I usually buy my son a couple of khakis and polos at the beginning of each season and they will last until he outgrows them.

I'm with you for myself: a dress that I have usually worn before is all I get for Easter!

I bought DD, almost 4 yrs old, the cutest Maggie and Zoe dress WITH matching doll dress from Marshalls for ONLY $14.99. They have A LOT of different beautiful styles to chooses from and the quality is AMAZING, too!
Did I mention it was ONLY $14.99 AND it had a matching doll dress???? :yay:

I would post a pic...but I cant figure out how?:confused3

My dd is 9 and LOVES to dress up, she is wearing a cute brown and pinky/peach sundress from Target I need to get a little white sweater for church and because we live in Maine, still cold! I think people don't dress up like we did. I wouldn't buy my dd a super fancy dress that she couldn't wear to other things just for Easter. I think capri's or the jean skirt you described sounds just right.

I buy my DD's dresses from Target. When she just wears them twice during the year, I don't want to spend too much money. We just bought them yesterday and new shoes for next weekends Easter picture appointment. I just have to buy the tights and I'm done. We don't do hats or gloves, but everything else is brand new and complete. My DD's loves their new purses.

Did you try JCPenney or Sears for parts of outfits? I agree with Macy's sales. I had to get their credit card to save additional money also. I don't like paying full price, unless it's at Target. There stuff is so reasonable anyway, that it doesn't bother me.

I also remember dressing up for Easter and making a day of it. We make our DD's dress up for Easter and we go to church and then to IL's for brunch. Then my DD's come home and take off their shoes and tights and dance around the house all day with their new dresses. I don't allow them to go outside to play in them so they get dirty.
