Ok gang, time I started a crazy thread of my own! What are your claims to fame, the more obscure the better (like the Arnie/Hummer one on another thread!)

I'll go first and try and stick with celebrities you'll know!

1. My mom got to hang out at her local bar with Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd. She also was one of a few people to hear Sgt Peppers the week before it was released (a friend worked at EMI) and she was given a copy of the Rolling Stones' first ever single by the band themselves at a club night.

2. My uncle used to hang out with the Hollies and played with them as part of the support act before they got big.

3. When my dad was at university in London, his flatmates were the members of Fleetwood Mac!

4. My OH is related to Scott of the Antarctic!

5. The guy who invented the computer went to my school, so did the guy who does the marketing for Harry Potter and the guy who was sent by the UK to assassinate Hitler and failed - d'oh!

Your turn!

 I hate to admit this... I once snuck into a reserved seating section with a friend and Vanilla Ice climbed up on speakers and sang to us!! :rotfl2:
At the time we were beside ourselves!! We could've touched his notched out eyebrows!!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Does this count as a claim to fame?! :confused3 (I hope none of this ends up in a tag!!! :rotfl2: How would I explain that?? :rotfl2: :confused3 )

MIL used to date Jerry Garcia before he was a dead head. He used to roller skate competitively, which is how they met.

DH is related to Art Carney from the Honeymooners.

I'm related to George Washington, John Adams, and Princess Diana.

I'm infamous and disliked in my town, does that count???? :lmao: I tend to speak my mind and no one likes it. :confused3 Oh well!

Ok, here's my poor little claim to fame--

I volunteered for Make A Wish in college, and I got to go on one of the trips. I got to meet the Rock (the wrestler/actor). It was a WWE event, and so I got to stay backstage and watch the wrestlers "practice" for what would happen when they are in the ring! :woohoo: The Rock, up close and personal, in his little man-bikini (or whatever you call that) is quite pretty! :teeth:

My claim to fame..

My mom lived next door to the wrestler Dick the Bruiser (Indiana fame)..

I went to school at Indiana University and was friends with several of the basketball players...

I know one of the weather men here by name.. His son plays basketball against my son.. Needless to say, I think that is why he keeps making it rain!

The first race track in Kentucky was (or was it Tennessee, I'll have to look it up again) was built on my ancestors farm!

I met Evan Bayh's wife at a covered bridge festival here in Indiana..

I guess I'm not that famous..
I do volunteer around town and at school alot so everyone knows us.

I know loubon, well I never really met him, but I posted on a thread with him once! :teeth:
Just kidding...I once asked Dianne Carroll for an autograph and she said no! :sad2: It was in my grandfather's drugstore!

Hmm.. don't think I have many claims to fame, but I'll give it a shot. :)

*My brother dated Aimee Mann when he was in highschool. She lived a few houses down from us. (For those that don't know her, she was the lead singer of Til Tuesday - an 80's band that put out "Voices Carry" - she's the spiky blond in the video. She's become an accomplished solo artist and I believe one of her songs was used in a movie several years back and it was nominated for an Oscar) Anyway, his best friend liked Aimee more and my brother liked his best friends girlfriend more so they ended up "switching". My brother married that girl. I could have had a famous SIL. Darn him, he always screws things up.

*My mom, when she was just married, moved into Frank Sinatra's apartment that he was just vacating because he was becoming "famous".

*Not so much a "who do you know" kind of thing but I've been in a music video on MTV. A Paul Simon video with Chevy Chase and Steve Martin

*I've met and done artwork for the author Patricia Cornwell

*One of my mom's best friends in highschool (and I'm sorry but her name escapes me right now) became a "b" list celebrity of her time and married Charles Nelson Reilly

*A regular customer of mine at work is the Indian from The Villiage People

That's all I can think of right now :)

Does the fact that I've met over 500 DISers in real life count as a claim to fame ;)

Do spill!

No claim to fame, but in 1992, I did meet the entire cast of "All My Children" and became very good friends with James Kiberd (Trevor Dillon) and his wife, Susan Keith (Shana on the now cancelled Loving). Myself and two of my friends got a personal tour of the ABC studios from them and I have pictures of us in his dressing room!! :goodvibes

That's all though...oh wait, my mom went to school with Jay Leno in Lowell, Mass. I guess that is all! LOL

The man who wrote, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. I taught his daughter. I saw Rodney Dangerfield in his underwear. My friend won the Reality show about being the next great hollywood stylist. I sewed the #8 on the actors costume in Fever Pitch and it's crooked.

Ummm, let's see.
*My Mum was one of the judges in the talent show that started Michael Buble's career.
*Ray Carrol, one of the original Platters, was a family friend. He passed away last week at the age of 82
* I had lunch in Milan with the grandson of Mussolini

That's it for names that aren't strictly local. Not much claim to fame here.

I Got a new tag!! And it also has to do with my Claim to Fame!!

Oh where oh where could that Tag Fairy be??

My claims to fame are:

- my DH once met and had a beer with Lou Gramm (Foreigner) in the house he grew up in (he was touring at the time but happened to come home for a visit)

- my DH's aunt's ex-husband is the brother of John Sayles (filmmaker)

- my father's good friend in high school once jammed with Elvis Presley in our airport! :rockband:

Does infamous count? We have traced our family tree back through the early 1800's when my ancestors were run out of North Carolina. We think they were horse thieves.

Oh, and I have relatives in Texas because my grandfather's twin brother got angry. Another guy pushed the girl he was courting off a footbridge into a creek and my grandfather's twin shot the guy. He thought he killed him, so in the dead of night he left for the West. He came back later when the other guy died of natural causes. :rotfl2:

Geez...not much here.

I was shopping next to Eddie Van Halen one day at California Adventure.

My boss's sister's husband is best friends with George Bush and she gets to go to the White house all the time. (I met him at her wedding years ago before he was Pres.)

I made Arianna Huffington cry at a college talk she was giving.

I was a winning contestant on NPR's Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

It's only because of the over abundance of Starbucks locations that I did not get shot while in Seattle. (not really a claim to fame, but my best travel adventure story)

DH looks so much like Jim Carrey that people sometimes think it's really him.
