Whats wrong with the Monorail??

The monorail has be down or working on a restricted schedule for a very long time and it doesn't seem to be getting fixed anytime soon. Whats the story?? Will it be running at 100% soon??

They have the monorail on a limitd schedule because of the work in the sublagoon. Not sure what the plan is over the next few months, but don't worry it will be back and its not a problem with the actual monorail!

Monorail is running fine... its only running a shuttle system right now (going forward, then going backward) Its because of the finding nemo ride that is causing it to do that.

When it doesn't do the going back and forth thing where doese it run? The one thing I didn't like about the monorail is it did not stop at hotells, wlkaing seemed just as fast

It stops in DTD, and if you're at the DLH, it is less walking for the most part. Besides DTD, the only stop is in Tomorrowland. Yes, it's the construction that causes it to be in Shuttle mode right now.

We were disappointed that we didn't get to ride it last fall on our first trip to DL. It will definitely make for a shorter walk for DLH guests!

Looking forward to trying it out on our next stay, which is hopefully in September.

Thanks for the replies. My boys love the monorail in WDW. They think its an attraction all of its own. We sometimes just ride loops. They love it. We also had to stay at the Contemp because the boys think the monorail lives there.

Just be aware the monorail at Disneyland is much different than WDW's. For one thing you have to have a park ticket since it stops inside the park. It doesn't stop at any hotels and is much shorter a ride than WDW's. It can be nice to cut down on some walking if you are staying at the DLH or Paradise Pier but it is also sometimes easier and faster to just walk it. Also be aware that if you are staying onsite you get to go through a faster line at the Tomorrowland station which can be quite helpful.

Thanks for the info We will be split staying 5 nights at DLH and 4 nights GC. Can you tell me more about the station in tomarrow land?? How do you access it ?? Is it alot quicker?? When does it open/close???

Bascially its in Tomorrowland near Autopia across from the back end of the Matterhorn. You will see the station, it has a ramp that leads up to the monorail platform. There's a separate entrance for onsite hotel guests to enter to get up that ramp, just look for the signs. It is open from park opening to closing. The last monorail leaves at closing. Now lots of people have the idea to ride it out of the park at closing and once the fireworks are over so it can get pretty crowded. If your are ending your night near that area it can be nice and convenient. Otherwise I would rather just walk and exit out Main Street rather than stand in a long line. When I like to use the monorail is during the afternoon when I am leaving the park for a break and heading back to the DLH. That time of day its not crowded to get on. I also do not generally like to ride it in the morning if I am getting to the park right at opening because they don't start running the monorail unitl the park is open and again lots of other people are doing the same thing. I would rather just walk up DTD (takes about 10 minutes from the DLH) and get in line a half hour early so I get into the park right when it opens. If you are standing in a line at the station in DTD waiting to get on so you can get to the park it can be frustrating as you realize you could already be in Disneyland had you walked! For your stay at the GCH, you won't want to ride the monorail anyway as the station is further down DTD than you want to be. It will all make sense once you get there and you will be amazed and in love with how compact everything at Disneyland is. I know when you see that you have to walk up DTD to get to the hotels it seems alarming but DL's DTD is not nearly as spread out and huge as WDW's, its a pleasant walk. In all, its easier to walk to the DLH than to bus, monorail or boat to any WDW resort from MK. I love it that I am guaranteed to be in my room at the DLH within 15 minutes of being on Main Street.

It was running X-mas week. A lot of people were getting on it thinking it would be like a ride(round trip) but there were CMs all over the place telling everyone that they needed to make sure they had their park tickets because it was a one-way trip from Tomorrowland to DTD. Then, everybody had to get off and get back in line to re-enter the park.

It was running in shuttle mode when we were there in July. Of course the crowds were much worse in July, but what we found... Staying at the DLH, it was faster to walk in to DL. The lines to go in to DL from DTD station were pretty crazy. Sometimes we'd wait 3-4 trains before getting on! Shuttle mode means your supposed to get off at each stop, you can't stay on. But a lot of people did. So even if a train came, not enough people got off, so the line wouldn't move much! But coming back it was faster taking it from Tomorrowland to DTD then walking back to the hotel. The lines really weren't that bad at the Tomorrowland station.

Of course that was in July, but when we go in early May we'll probably do it the same way. Walk in to DL, take the Monorail back!
