Ok... so what's with the new GF refurb?

How come some of the rooms are redone with all the wallpaper, furniture, etc except the bath areas and some are just painted regular cream colors? I think that's kind of bland for a 5 star hotel...

Has anyone had this and if you did, please post where you stayed because I heard it was only the corner rooms that weren't done with wallpaper because of the heat on the walls... seems strange to me...

Also... please post pics if you have them...

Thanks...

Just an FYI

The GF is rated 4 diamonds by AAA.
It is not and never has been rated as a 5 star hotel.

Most sites rate the GF as a 3 and a half star resort.

Just my 2 cents.

Still... would you want to check into Disney's flagship resort only to find out your room is painted bland and not much better than a Holiday Inn? Not when you're paying $375 a night... Especially when alot of people know that the rest of the resort has been redone...

& it's not just the decor... lots of people are reporting problems with mousekeeping and changes in the concierge level... I know it's a business but image is important in these circumstances. & so is repeat customers and it's repeat customers who are finding the largest changes.

Just one of several reasons that we refuse to stay Disney Deluxe. When Disney starts providing rooms/amenities that are worth the outrageous prices that they charge, we will gladly book a deluxe, but until then, moderates it is for us =)

I have not heard that rooms are being booked and stayed in that are only partially completed. That would be ridiculous on the part of Disney.

I do know that some buildings are not completed, but NO ONE is staying in those buildings at that time. Sago Cay was yet to be refurbed when we were there in October, but it is closed now.

Being the flagship resort, also one of the most expensive on property, I wouldn't think Disney would be so foul as to place guests in a partially completed room.

All the rooms are getting new furniture and bed linens. It's an ongoing process, which I believe won't be finished for a couple more weeks. Maybe you saw pictures or read a report from someone who was staying in a room that hadn't been renovated yet. In terms of which ones get wallpaper and which ones get paint, it all depends on the room. The bump out in the lodge tower rooms have always been painted, while the remaining 3 walls have wallpaper on them. I think it's the same in some suites as well (mixture of paint & wallpaper). I'd have to look through my photo album to be sure.

There's an active thread called the GF FAQ, which has many pictures posted of old and new room styles. You may want to take a look through that when you have a minute.

I've seen other pictures from rooms that are on the 1st floor of Conch Key and they have the same painted walls. I'm not sure why they switched from the nice warm blue paint to a more bland creamy white. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the renovated rooms anyway. I much preferred the large table for room service and organizing our day's activities. Now they have this huge chair and ottoman, with only a tiny table that stored under the desk. I guess the look is more Victorian, but they lost some of the room function imo.

I hear they have upgraded things also like docking stations for your ipods and computer internet hookups.... that stuff is good.

I just hope that they go back and finish all the rooms. I love the GF and would hate to have a bad experience there.

That's the thing though, I believe those rooms are finished. Prior to the renovation, they had blue painted walls and now they have the creamy white walls. There was no wallpaper to replace, so they just re-painted.

As with any other resort, if you aren't happy with the room they assign you, you can always see if they have something else. Actually, the 2nd link you posted, that's what that poster did. She was originally in another building and liked the design of her particular room, but not the view, so they switched to the above posted room. The interior design was not to her liking, but she decided it to keep it because of the view and location.

We just stayed at the GF for the first time 3 weeks ago. The rooms were beautiful and very tastefully done. The rooms had beige wall paper with a white design on them and beautiful light yellow and blue comforters. There was a 32inch flat screen TV and an IPOD dock w/a radio alarm clock and a nice size refrigerator. The blue chair was comfortable with a hassock for your feet and the small table was perfect for my kids to sit and eat breakfast at. They used the desk chair and the cushioned bench at the end of the bed for seats. The desk had internet hook up and extra outlets to charge your phones. There was also a couch that converted into a bed. The room was spotless and mousekeeping was great. The only complaint was the amount of drawer space for your clothes. There were only 4 small drawers. The only lodge that was not renovated was Sago. All the other lodges were. Supposedly only a few rooms are not wallpapered and that was because of the walls getting too hot and the paper not sticking. I don't think a room with painted walls vs wallpaper makes it not worthy of a 4 star rating or should be compared to a Holiday Inn. The CM's were great. You could not stand in one spot looking perplexed without a CM running over and asking if you needed help. We were even asked by one of the golf cart drivers if we wanted a ride. I always thought I would stay at the GF and say OK been there done that, where should we stay next, like we said after our stay at the Poly but we are now hooked on the GF. Even my husband who is generally a pessimist loved it. PS: We stayed garden view.

wdhinn89 - We are going to be staying at the GF in a couple of weeks, Garden View also, could you tell me what building you stayed in:banana:

Thanks,

Thanks for the review... I do love the GF have stayed there 4 times and hope to go there again very soon. I was just wondering with what some of the others have been saying if it was some rooms were done over and some were just cream colored. I love the victorian decor and do love the new look. I just wondered if it was certain areas or not.

Glad you liked it. It's hard to pick between the GF and the Poly. Both are favorites of mine. I of course love the monorail... :)

Michelle, with the exception of Sago Cay (nearly complete) all the rooms have been re-done. The only differences in the rooms now, are that a few have the painted walls instead of wallpaper. The bedding is all the same (no more assortment of Alice, Floral or the Fairies) and the furniture is new. As wdhinn89 pointed out, the rooms re-painted may have been due to previous problems with heat and/or humidity.

Thanks Tammi...

I guess since I go off season, I will just ask to make sure that I get a room with the "view" that I would like... :goodvibes

I was one of the unfortunate ones that stayed in the blah off-white rooms. It is just ironic because I am probably the most 'decor oriented' hotel snob there is! I LOVED the old floral rooms at the GF. It reminded me of a victorian bed and breakfast, something you do not find at many hotels. I was leary of the new decor to begin with and then to end up in a white room sent me over the edge!
My husband was furious with the fact that I wanted to change and thought I was beyond rediculous. I guess he is right, in a way, with all the strife in the world getting upset over non-wallpapered walls is very trivial and insignificant. None the less, it did look like a boring Marriott and for $425 a night I was very dissapointed.
I was told that, yes, the rooms in the corner are not wallpapered due to the heat. We were in room 7201 and it overlooked the Mariana then Sago Key. I tried to attach a photo but I do not know if it will work, my computer is fickle with attaching photo files.
