After our last three trips to WDW, my wife and I have come down with colds or a respiratory problem shortly after returning home.
Our trips were during different times of the year, so it can't be season related. Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Did you fly? Think of how close you are sitting with a bunch of people for at least a couple hours that may or may not have colds, the flu, or who know's what!

Yes we did fly, but we have been flying there for years without problems. Although, we did change to a certain budget airline on our last three trips. Hmmm!

They say that the air on an airplane is very drying so germs get into the system easily through the nose. Since hearing this I make it a point to travel using saline nasal spray for everyone to keep things moist when we fly so my body can do it's thing. I can't say if it works or not but we don't get sick. It's certainly cheap enough to do so I keep doing it.

You are traveling to a different place filled with people from all over the world. Imagine the number of new germs you are exposed to and think about your poor immune system fighting to stay healthy! I am NOT a germaphobe, but WDW is the one place where I pay attention to what I am touching and use hand sanitizer.

We definitely spend more time washing hands and sanitizing when in WDW. Lots of people from all over carrying who knows what with them?

I came down with one heck of a cold in the middle of our 2007 trip as well as this a few days into this past August's trip. My mom thought it strange that I packed cold medicine but I only had to pay through the nose (no pun intended) once - 2007... decongestant was around $8 for a small box! - to learn my lesson. I always pack it now.

I agree. It's quite common to catch a bug when you are around people from all over the world. Plus, they are most likely having to Fly to get there and are in contact with numerous people at the airports, on planes, etc. A melting pot of germs

I caught a really bad stomach bug on a trip to Universal. It was horrible.

My whole family used to come home with a respiratory illness after all of our trips to Disney World. (And we always drive, so flying wasn't part of the issue.) We used to keep the air conditioner blasting the whole time - we kept the room much cooler than we keep our home during the summer. We found that keeping the air conditioner set a little warmer in the summer and taking a humidifier during the winter seems to have really helped. Maybe going back and forth from the extreme heat to the extreme cold all day was part of the problem, and I think they dryness when we had the heat on in the winter was also a contributing factor. We haven't been sick after any of our recent trips.

I used to get sick every time I flew but now I take the Walgreen's version of Airborne called Wal-Born before each flight and I have not been sick since. They have some yummy new flavors including a pink grapefruit. They are perfect mixed into wine coolers! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Maybe you didn't notice you were sick.

Do you think budget airlines attract more sick people? What an odd thought. I just returned from a weekend up North and caught the travelers cold. Not surprising when you think of how many people pass through airports on a daily basis.

NO, I don't think budget airlines attract more sick people, but I started thinking about how quickly the airline we flew turn passengers over on an incoming and outgoing flight. They couldn't be doing much cleaning on the plane between flights with a rapid turnover. On our last flight, as soon as the incoming flight passengers were unloaded, the outgoing passengers boarded. They could not have done much of a wipe down. Maybe it's that way with most airlines nowadays oweing to demand.

As far as an odd thought. That would be nothing new for me.

Do you have allergies? I have year round allergies and I have noticed that I end up with terrible allergy problems when I go to FL. Yep, I am allergic to WDW. There is obviously something there that affects me that doesn't at home. It is obvious to me that the symptoms are allergy related and not cold/virus. I travel with all my allergy meds and nebulizer. Had to go to the store and buy several boxes of Kleenex on our last trip because it was so bad.

We drive so it is not an airline thing.

Allergic to WDW? Oh, I hope not! I refuse to even give that some thought.

I do have some allergy problems, but not my wife and she came home worse than I did.

Thanks for the info. We keep our room much like you did. We'll try your suggestions.

I am just the opposite. I have year-round allergies, but they almost disappear when I am in Florida. :confused3

I think a lot of people catch something on vacation (which may not have symptoms until after returning home) because their bodies are run down sleeping less than normal, eating more junk and fewer vitamins than normal, getting too much sun, drinking too much alcohol or sugar and not enough water, etc.

Do you think that could have something to do with it in your case?

:scared1:, you're probably going to get it for that last remark:rotfl2:, you do know that germs don't pick and choose the rich or poor to attack right?:rolleyes1:

Headlines: Flying a budget airline can make you :lmao:
