What's up with the "Check out to see price" items?

Sorry, tone is hard to read on these boards and there are a lot of snarky people here. I spend a lot of time on that site as well, and it looks like something new.

And sorry I jumped on ya a bit there too... :flower3:

I really was just trying to help by explaining how often I had been over there and had never seen that before. I was hoping by asking for a link that I could see if there was something you had missed (since at the time I didn't know how often you used the site). However, I tried to go through it myself (with an account) and was shocked when I couldn't find a way to see the price before hand. I have yet to find another one like this either... but I don't have time to look at everything haha.

Here you go, not making this up:rolleyes:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889187213

I put it in my cart, no price, clicked continue and it goes to the secure checkout page where you choose your payment method/enter CC info. Lots of items you can see the price in the cart, but not ones like this.

Click "Add to cart" - it'll load the cart. Under price it says "see price in cart" - click on the button with that text, and it it'll show you the price in a popup window. And that one is $959.98.

As of yesterday, it was NOT doing that. Myself and others double checked it for the OP. No matter what you clicked it would not show the price. I took it as far as where you select your payment and still could not see the price.

As of today, that has changed.

I wasn't disagreeing so much with that having been the behavior as pointing out that it currently wasn't the behavior for me, with my browser and patch set.

Newegg has been having problems where the "only in cart" prices aren't displaying in every browser (even after adding to the cart), with multiple (non-overlapping) bug reports filed in November. The behavior you were seeing may or may not be connected to that.

It may also be related foiling the add-ins available for various browsers that automatically add the item to the cart, screen-scrape the price (and shipping) and remove it, to transparently display the discounted prices.

Or it may have been a short-lived policy change to see what customer reactions are.

Having worked in web development, I'm a little slow to ascribe to intentional policy changes what can be explained by things slipping past developers and QA.

I think it was a policy. I had it happen at the Best Buy site, so I'm thinking this is a new thing companies are trying out. At BB, you didn't have to put in your credit card info, but you did have to either sign in or create an account. If it was a bug, two companies had it at the same time (unless, Newegg and BB are related, then it would make complete sense).

Yeah, tried that, and it didn't work for me(or anyone else) that day. At this point, I already got my tv, so I have no reason to be looking there for one:goodvibes. I just thought it was weird. I saw it at BestBuy too, but I don't remember what item it was now.
