Will we need the express pass 2nd. week of May?

How far from Disney?

This is our first visit. Trying to find out what is our best plan of attack. Any advice would be great.

We always visit the first or second week of May. We never go on the weekends and generally will choose Tue/Wed/Thur to visit. So far we've been fine. However, we don't really care if we don't see everything. By the afternoon the lines do start getting long.

We've been during that period and no, you shouldn't need EPs if you arrive at park opening and get most of the popular rides done first thing.

How far from Disney?

Depending where you will be staying on Disney property, it's about a 30 minute drive to Universal. If you won't have a car, you can check out transportation options to Universal from Disney in this thread
