What's the worst thing you've ever been woken up to?

A call from an ICU nurse telling us to come to the hospital because my mom had taken a turn for the worse. She passed about an hour later.

I have a catio so in hot weather I leave the kitchen window open, so one day shift morning rolled over to find the latest dead mouse I had been gifted

The one I will never forget was the night my neighbor called to ask us to watch her children because one was sick and had to go to the hospital. The call a few hours later was heart wrenching. It still haunts me, more than 20 years later.

On a lighter note, my daughter throwing up in the bed, all over the long haired cat who slept with her. The cat had never been bathed before and he did not like it one bit.

This. Every morning. Right under my window for days on end. It was some guy working on his car and he must have loved this song so much because it was all he played:

On the heavier side, I was woken up in the middle of the night by my bed shaking. It was my elderly dog, who slept with me, having a seizure. It rendered him blind. Of course we rushed him right to the animal hospital's ER, but made the decision to hold him while they put him to sleep.

Oh! There's the time when we were staying at the "Ritz" Hotel (not the Ritz Carleton, just the Ritz - not at all the same) in South Beach, Miami for a conference. In the middle of the night, we heard two guys walk into our room. I'm a light sleeper, so I jumped out of bed and screamed "Get out!" at them, which woke up DH. The front desk claimed they had given out the wrong key, but I know that's not right, because these guys didn't try turning on the light when they came in.
2 years ago my sisters and I were at a hotel in Miami before our cruise left and some people were trying to get into our room with a key the desk had supposedly given them in the middle of the night. Luckily we always put the latch on the door. When we complained at the desk in the morning they just shrugged it off saying it was a mistake and the wrong room number had been keyed in. No apology or anything. This was at a national chain hotel in the moderate price range.

This actually happened to us at All Star Music at WDW!

We got our room assignment, found the room and opened the door with our key. As we started to walk in we stop dead in our tracks when we realized the room was clearly occupied by someone else (who thankfully were not there when we walked in!) We immediately backed out and returned to the desk to let them know.

It always freaked me out a bit thinking about it! That hotel key in the wrong hands could have been very bad!
