Back in the late seventies/early eighties, I actually owned a pair of Nikes that looked like saddle shoes but were white leather with iridescent panels on the side that changed from purple to blue depending on how the light was reflecting of them. And, I'm embarrassed to say, I wore them -- a lot!!!

Anyone else have shoe "horror" stories?

Oh yes! When I was a little girl, I needed some dress shoes for my much older brother's wedding. After going to every shoe store in town with no luck, my much older sister finally went into some discount store for something or other and I ended up coming out with this pair of white shoes which should have been pulled off the assembly line during the manufacturing process. To this day, my husband will pull out the wedding album at my parent's house and laugh at those shoes. He delights in showing them to our children and having them laugh at mom's ugly shoe phase also.

Remember around 1987 when it was really cool to wear royal blue, bright teal green, fuschia pink and black? Those were the 'in' colors. I would have been about 15 and in grade 10 and thought I had the coolest shoes. The other kids were in envy of them, but my mom hated them. I look back now and OMG they were ugly. They were a penny loafer style, but the toe quite pointed. They looked like a lizard skin pattern but were BRIGHT royal blue. I remember finding them and falling in love. I used my summer job money to pay for them, and I think they were close to 40 bucks (thats a lot to a 15 yr old). Well they didn't have my size 7 left, so I got a size 8 and would stuff the toes.
Wish I still had them to show my daughter, she would get a good laugh, but after the bright ugly colors went 'out', my mom took great pleasure in pitching them!

Yes.... my ugly shoe horror story includes a dress and centers around my church Confirmation. My DM had been sick for quite a while (we didn't know with what at the time) and she just didn't have the energy to truck me all over town looking for a dress. I think she just let me buy the first one I picked. A very ill-fitting sundress.... very pretty pale pink and pleated but very ill-fitting (I guess I didn't notice I was developing boobs!) I think she ran out of energy then and we went home. Then I realized I needed shoes. There was an Ames Dept. store that I was allowed to walk to (although it was quite far away and I would never let my 13 year old walk that far alone!) and I just bought whatever I could find.... very ugly, old lady scuffy blue sandals... YUCK!! I knew they weren't great, but they were all I could find I guess. But I lived to tell about it!................P

I gotta admit - I wear Birkenstocks almost exclusively. Sandals in the summer - clogs in the winter. But there was one pair - eyuk! They were sandals - navy on one side and white on the other, they had a lot of straps - anyway it looked like I was wearing a pair of those post-surgery shoes! I sure like the newer styles of Birkie sandals that hardly look like the old "birks".

every pair of "dyed to match" shoes I had to buy to "match" various bridesmaid dresses. ugh

every wonder what the heck is going on when you see one shoe on the highway? and then a little further up, you see the other shoe?

it's bridesmaids like me whipping these $40 shoes out the sunroof becase they are
1. uncomfortable
2. fugly
3. never to be worn again (same as the dress) no matter WHAT the bride says.

for those not married yet - please, for the love of god, let your girls wear strappy black sandles or something! no one sees their shoes under long dresses anyway! (hell - me and my BM's wore flip flops!)

OMG stinkerbelle. You are hilarious!! And so right!!:p

when i was in high school i bought a pair of fire engine red patent leather mary janes. :o

they came in handy in college when i dressed up as dorothy for holloween. :p

Things must be more "classy" in your neck of the woods if the highways are littered with dyed-to-match shoes. The only thing we ever see are stinky, dirty, sneakers!

I so had to get in on this one....my name is Penny2 and I AM a shoeaholic. I'll go by era:

70's - WIERD and FUNKY platforms....red ones, silver ones....does anyone remember the platform sandals where you wore colored socks??? They were neutral colored with cross straps!!

80's - ANY color, pointy toes. I had a pair of suede loafers that were orange, bright pink, and red.

90's - Had to love those western type sort of boot shoes....I had a black suede lacey pair....AND a hat to match!

NOW - ANYONE whos says that LUGS are attractive...well, in the eye of the beholder and ALL that. Pointy shoes are coming back....just when my corns were pretty much all gone!

I have close to 100 pairs of shoes....all shapes, heights, colors, types.......I guess when it comes to addictions this is a tame one. BUT I know some day I'm going to look in the UGLY SHOE LIBRARY and see my feet!

well trust me - I see those too!!

Actually - on my drive in to work this morning...I saw one cowboy boot. (I live in Connecticut). Just one...never saw the matching one...maybe it was on the north-bound side! heheeh

A pretty pair of feet can make ugly sandals look good.........

The only thing that sticks out in my mind si a pair of white go-go boots when i was 14!

I wore them with these pink mini dress. (remember the ones that were so short they had matching panties to wear with them)

I thought I looked so cool in the outfit....now when I see the picture (I actually wore this to a cousins wedding) I just cringe!

Nancy:

Is your last name "Sinatra"? If it is, those are some pretty famous white go-go boots!

These boots are made for walkin' ...

My DH has a 'thing' about destroying awful shoes I wear. The last pair of shoes he disliked went on a fire in the garden, then pair of white thongs with 3 inch heels went freediving in POR quiet pool (Ihad to dive in and rescue them:eek: )
He names my shoes:

I have 'noodle' shoes
'Gypsy' shoes
'Hairdresser' shoes
and plain stupid shoes!!! They are all nice to me!
