I'm trying to finalize all of the plans for our upcoming trip and I just know we won't spend a full day at MGM, so I'm thinking about hopping over to Epcot because I could easily spend a day and a half there.

We may end up going back for an afternoon rest after MGM and then going to Epcot, but if we were to go straight from MGM to Epcot and then wanted to go back to MGM for Fantasmic, what would be the best way? Thanks!!

The boat from MGM to EPCOT takes about 25 minutes. You could walk it slightly faster, but save your energy and take the boat.

You can walk from the main gate of the Studios to the IG at Epcot or you can take a boat.

Walking is probably faster (depending on how fast you walk and if you have very young and/or very old people with you) unless the boat is ready to leave when you are arriving at the dock.

The boat ride is relaxing and fun but it will take longer.

We like to take the boat because we get to rest our tired feet for a while and enjoy the quiet lake. :)

I 'spect the QUICKEST way to get from MGM to Epcot would be to grab a taxi at the MGM front gate. They are usually parked nearby.

Wow . . . you all are fast! Thanks for the info! :)

You don't mention if you are staying onsite or if you are going to use a car to get to park. The boat from mgm and epcot is faster, however...last 4th of july we parked our car at mgm and went over to epcot for the fireworks. was told that the boats keep for a certain time after the parks close. it was wrong info. because of lightning, fantasmic was cancelled so mgm was cleared out a lot faster and the epcot fireworks were delayed. so after the epcot fireworks we ran to the boats and were told once on the boat that they were not going to mgm, just to the hotels. I told them that we were told the boats would bring us back to mgm, the captain then asked if anyone else needed to go back to mgm and fortunately there were about 10 more people. the captain did not look too happy but she brought us back to mgm. Then because the mgm had closed early and trams only ran 1 1/2 hrs after park closing, we just made it to the last tram at mgm.

Now if you are staying onsite and taking buses, then this whole scenario does not mean anything. I would then take the boat from mgm to epcot and then take the bus from epcot to your hotel.

Or (drum roll) you can take a bus from the front of MGM to the front of Epcot!
I didn't know there were busses that went from park to park...I thought they ran from resort to park & visa versa. Learned something new!

Would this be the quickest, as that is what the OP was looking for?

In the end it all comes down to what is available when the OP walks out of the park and where in EPCOT OP is going.

Boat/Walking is better for Internation Gate - Walking will beat a boat by about 5 minutes assuming the same departure time

Bus/Taxi is better for Main Entrance - Taxi will beat bus by whatever the departure time difference is.

we walk from MGM to EP (and back) every trip - takes about 30 minutes (not rushing, enjoying the scenery)

No way would I walk (unless you are a HUGE fan of walking) - it's a lot longer than it looks and don't forget that there will be quite a lot of walking inside Epcot once you are there. Just take the boat straight from MGM to Epcot and be done with it.

My sister and I are fairly young and walk a lot. We did the walk, and stopped for ice cream at the Boardwalk, and still beat the boat we would have taken to the Epcot entrance. The boats are really slow since they stopped 3 times.

Another downside to the boats is that when you get to the security area it will be mobbed by all the people on the boat. If you walk, it will most likely be quiet.

I would say it's a little over a mile walk.

I have actually been wondering this too. We have ADR's at Cape May for breakfast, then we are going to MGM.

So what is the last hotel stop before the boat goes to MGM?

I was thinking of walking to the last stop hotel and then taking the
boat to MGM.

I believe it's the Swan/Dolphin stop. (I'm pretty sure it's MGM-S/D-BC/YC-BW-Epcot).

Walking is fastest if you time to International Gate. If you're a reasonably fast walker, it's faster EVEN IF the boat is sitting there at the dock waiting for you and leaves immediately. If you're headed to Future World, a bus or car is probably somewhat faster even for a fast walker.

I once walked MGM to IG in 15 minutes, but I was really moving. For most it will be 20-25 minutes. 30 minutes would be a pretty leisurely pace.

You could always ride the boat the Yacht Club (which is the second stop after Swan & Dolphin) and is a short walk to the International Gateway. Actully I did the walk from the YC just tonight. In total the walkway from MGM to Epcot is 1 1/4 miles.

Take the boat and relax you will do enought walking when you get there.
