So what's the possibility of deals on Nook's or Kindle's on Black Friday? I'm starting to consider looking at getting an e-reader but don't remember what kind of deals were offered on black Friday last year or what is rumored to be offered this year. Or maybe am I better off not getting it on black friday at all because there are no offers like that.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Last year, Amazon had the Kindle 1 or 2 comparatively cheap as one of its Gold Box deals on Black Friday - but it sold out in less than the allotted 15 minutes.

Honestly, with the three new Kindles out now, and the special editions, I'd just buy it now.

That Kindle last year sold out in under 10 seconds and they were the older model. Some people (like me for instance) never even got the screen to come up.

The best deal I've seen lately is the refurbished nook STR (simple touch reader) on Overstock and Buy.com. The base price is $79 and with the various coupon codes etc you can work down from there .... depending on the specifics codes you use free shipping, no sales tax etc and work it down to around $70 shipped. If you want a basic reader (WiFi only, no extras) to just read on...that's a deal definitely worth considering. They come with a 1 year warranty. The base model Kindle is $79 - I've never tried one so I can't say much about it. I prefer the Kindles but I'm actually considering grabbing the nook just to use as a back-up and in my library classes.

The new Kindles (Fire, Touch, Basic) are extremely unlikely to have any sales.

Since they've just lowered prices along with the introduction of the new items, I doubt they'll have any great prices after Thanksgiving. I think Amazon's going to be solidly "in the black" without a sale on their best-selling products.

I think it's more likely that they'll run out of these new items before Christmas, so I suggest that if you want one, buy it now.

If Amazon does a Thanksgiving-sale, I'd look for it to be on Kindle accessories rather than the e-reader itself.

I got a great deal on my nook last year, Thanksgiving day. Of course...it was a great deal for last year but a standard price for this year! Nonetheless, there may be a decent offer around Black Friday. My nook was through Overstocks and is refurbished ....no problems with it whatsoever.

I wouldn't expect any sales from either Barnes & Noble or Amazon. You might however be able to get one from one of the other re-sellers like Target or Best Buy or... And even there I wouldn't expect much of a sale, more along the line of the buy x and get a GC thing kind of like you see with the Wii, Play station or Apple Products.

Last year I stood in line to get my Nook at Best Buy for $99, which was $50 off the base price of $149. I thought it was a great deal (1/3 off!) and I still love everything about it!

Thanks for all the insight! I really appreaciate all the help that you are all abe to share!

Right now Barnes & Noble has the Nook 1st Edition in the stores for $89. I just bought two for my nieces.
