After my Dad passed away, I took his black overcoat to at least 3 flea markets, and it never sold. As I was about to put it in a Goodwill bag, I decided to try it on. I stuck my hands in the pockets, and came up with a stack of holy cards from my Aunt's funeral, and a used hanky in the other pocket. And I remembered seeing him, standing far apart from the other mourners at my aunt's funeral, in that coat, crying and blowing his nose.
That was 10 years ago and I'm still wearing that coat...how could I part with it after that poignant memory? I replaced the buttons with some feminine-looking ones. My older brother was with my Dad when he bought it and we estimate it's more than 25 years old.
