I swore I would never watch Spiderman...ever. I have this tremendous fear of spiders and I hate them. So I thought Spiderman would have tons of spiders in it. But when I saw it when it first came out on DVD, my dad and brother were watching it downstairs and curiousity (sp?) got the best of me. I watched it and I loved it! I was so surprised that I liked it, and I'm glad I watched it. Can't wait to see Spiderman 3 in 2007! :p

What movie did you sware never to see, but you saw it anyway... and liked it?

or

What movie did you really want to see, but it dissapointed you?

Okay, I'm going to hear about this but I have to admit I swore I would never watch the Lord of the the Rings. Finally, one year on Father's Day I told my DH that since it was his day, he could choose whatever movie he wanted and I'd watch it with him. He chose LOTR and we watched it and I LOVED it! I can't believe I was so closeminded about watching it. It was a great movie and I couldn't wait to see the rest of the movies in the series.

Can you believe Indiana Jones?! Back when it just came out, I had no thoughts about seeing that movie until my friend who was working at a theater let me in for a free viewing. Now I love the all the Indiana Jones movie except for Temple of Doom. I won't watch that one again since it's too gross for me.

Gothika ~ I was really looking forward to seeing it. The trailers that I saw when we were in the US made the film look fantastic. I was really disappointed when I eventually saw it. Was surprised that one film could be so lousy.

The Others with Nicole Kidman. It was a really slow movie and almost lost me a few times, but the ending just blew me away. After watching it once, my daughter and I tossed it back into the DVD player and watched it a 2nd time. IMO, a great movie.

I hate scary movies, but somehow, I landed up watching on tv two that I absolutely love, but they still scare me. The Devils Advocate (Al Pacino) and Interview with a Vampire (Tom Cruise).

Undead. Look great, but was horrible. I was stunned at how bad it was. we were screaming and laughing at all the "scary" parts. It was just bad.

The Matrix. I'm not a big fan of action flicks, but this movie really blew me away. And the sequels were just as good!

I love to be surprised by movies.....but of course, only pleasantly.
I didn't think I would like Sky Captain....and loved it.

Love the ending on The Others. I didn't see that one coming. I want more movies that you don't know how it will end ::yes::

Troy - I didn't think I'd like it as I don't really like 'historical' type movies, but I watched it and it's now one of my favourite movies! I loved it! :)

the Harry Potter movies - I thought they looked pretty good from the trailers, but when I got round to watching them, I didn't think much of them. They weren't as good as I thought they were going to be. I think I'll just stick with the books ;)

:)

MILLION DOLLAR BABY: boxing doesnt appeal to me at all. thought I would hate it, but I thought it was wonderful.

One that I had zero desire to see but was very pleasently surprised after was Oh Brother Where Art Thou? To me it seemed so dumb, but after DH convinced me to give it a try, I was so glad he did!

I had no desire to watch that either... but when I heard Orlando Bloom was in it I just HAD to watch it   . I had to find those LOTR DVD's my dad bought off of ebay somewhere. So I ended up watching all three of them and loving them too! (And not just because Orlando was in it) Now I am reading the books. That movie really surprised me too. :teeth:

I also had no desire to see LOTR until my brother made me. I saw it when it first came out on DVD and I was just blown away. It was then that my obsession with Orlando Bloom started. :teeth:

I was very disappointed with Elizabethtown. The dialogue between Orlando's and Kirsten's characters drove me insane. Nobody talks like that!

The Corpse Bride was kind of a bummer too. They showed all the good/funny parts in the commercials. Everything else was just okay.

Same here. ::yes:: I avoided them for years! They just "weren't my thing", they would be dark, icky, scary, too... "out there". You name it, I was convinced they weren't for me. DS and DH watched Fellowship one afternoon. I was out shopping for the day. DH called me on the cell and said that I simply HAD to see this movie! Not like him at all. Okay okay, I'll watch them! OMG! I was speechless! What a dork I was!!

MamaLema, I was the same way! They didn't fall into the genre that I would've normally been at all interested in. It's difficult to sum up into a few short words why, but these movies, for so many reasons, really are in a category of their own. They're really pretty amazing. Quite a labor of love by all involved and that shines through in countless ways throughout the films. :)

This is showing my age but... when this movie first came out, the beginning with the huge bolder that looked like it would smash Indy... :scared1: it surprised me so much that I think I sqeezed all the blood out of my neck! Got a HUGE neck cramp and could barely stand it through the rest of the movie!! But I loved it so much I couldn't leave!
My recent choice would be 'The Sixth Sense'! I don't usuallly like that type but that was an excellent surprise!!

Bicentennial Man with Robin Williams. The previews made it look like a funny, happy film. The ending was one of the singlemost depressing things I have ever seen. I cried throughout the whole end and was depressed for days. I hate it when a movie advertises itself as one thing and turns out to be something else.

pirate: Pirates of the Carribean! My DH had to beg me to watch it with him. The 1st 5 - 10 minutes were so intense as I sat there knowing something was going to happen to startle me! After Capt. Jack showed up in one of the greatest movie entrances IMO, I was able to relax & enjoy the rest of the movie.
