what's the least amount of points you are allowed to own?

I keep looking at the timeshare store's listings and was wondering about purchasing some points of my own. We usually stay with my parents on their DVC, but I'd love to own a piece of the magic myself.

Is it possible to purchase, say 80 points when I don't own points anywhere else? Thanks

you can not buy that few directly from disney, but smaller contracts are available resale. The fewest points sold by disney in a contract is 25, I believe. But you may want a few more. ;)

The smallest contract available by resale would be 25 points.

Even with that number of points, you will have access to all member perks and amenities. If an 80 point contract will meet your needs, go for it!

Enjoy!

If you buy a resale from a site like the Timeshare Store, there is no minimum. There are DVC members who only own 25 points :earboy2: You could certainly buy 80 points that way. Disney has a minimum of 150 when you buy direct from them. Good luck :wizard:

Wow! Thanks for such quick answers! I keep looking at the Timeshare store listings and dreaming.

It would be great to buy maybe 80 points for myself. And we'd get the AP discount to boot.

Keep in mind that when buying resale you can't select how many points you want. You can only get what's available. If you wanted exactly 80 points, the only way you'd get it is if someone else had done an exact 80 point add-on that they are now selling.

You'll really need to pick and choose something that fits your needs from what's available.

You could always do what we just did.

We just bought an add on off of my parent's DVC. We bought 2 - 120 point add ons in order to get the bonus 100 points each. The deed reads my name first, my wife's second and my father 3rd. It made us members, we were automatically approved because my parent's was already paid off and we were able to buy any amount we wanted. We can have my father's name removed as soon as the mortgage is paid off.

This way also saves you the price of closing costs you get with a resale.

Ok...now you've got me thinking....I'll have to look into that. I don't know if my parent's DVC is paid off.

Off to see Disney on Ice. Thanks for the suggestion!

We also wanted about 80 points total. We bought a 30 point SSR resale thru The Timeshare Store... and now we are in the process of doing a 50 point addon thru DVC in order to get same Use Year, etc. for a total of 80.

It was hard to keep ourselves from adding 120 and getting the 100 bonus points.... but all we really needed for our annual trip was about 80 for now, so we're trying to not let "add-on fever" take control.
