What's the chance of DVC limiting to your home resort?

If you are traveling with a 4 yo, you will most likely spend a lot of time at MK. For super easy MK access, plus character meal options you can not beat a MK resort. In my opinion, WLV is by far your best choice.

What's wrong with VWL?

Since I think you might wonder why we're selling our VWL points, it's mostly a matter of DH being totally in love with staying at OKW and not wanting to stay anywhere else. I admit that we didn't have the greatest time on our first trip to VWL, but if it hadn't been for DH's reaction to OKW, we'd give VWL another try. As someone here said once, anyone can have a bad day-hey, maybe someone's been to OKW once, met with lousy CMs and wonder what all this hooplah is about how great anyone thinks OKW is. But DH would just love to be an OKW owner some day. To me, we also have 100 points at BCV, and that's my favorite resort (even though I only get to stay there if I'm solo-remember, DH is stuck on OKW).

I have seen you posting this before and I can not understand the logic at all . I can not see how you would benefit at all by selling VWL pts for OKW pts, other than being able to say your home resort was OKW. Due to many factors like size of the resorts, locations of resorts, etc., there is a big difference in the how much in demand each resort is and in the resale value of each resort. You can always use your pts to book at OKW. OKW is a much easier resort to book at at the 7 month or less mark. VWL contracts almost always demand a higher price on the resale market. Why not just use the pts to always book at OKW?? It is not like it is difficult to switch a VWL reservation over to an OKW reservation at the 7 month mark; however the reverse would be much more difficult to accomplish. You will be selling pts at a resort that is in higher demand and commands a higher resale price for a resort that is in less demand and sells for less. If the day ever comes that you can not book outside of your home resort then and only then could I see the logic is selling VWL pts for OKW pts and that is only because you do not like to stay at VWL.

So what's wrong with that? That just means we'd probably be able to sell to someone who'd want to stay at VWL, and can't now, since they don't own there. Also, dues at VWL are higher. So we'd be paying for something we don't want, just because it's so desirable? Why not just sell to someone who'd really like the 11 month window, who does desire it. Then DH can say "I own where I want to stay!"

Since they are your points, you can obviously do whatever you wish with them. But if you equate each DVC membership with a real estate interest that holds a cash value until 2042, why decrease the value? Yes the dues are slightly higher, but unless you have a very large contract, the dues difference is really not that much per year. AND there is no guarantee that OKW dues will always remain the lowest. OKW has had the highest % of dues increase for the past 2 years. With the additional expenses of slide/pool maintenance, life guard staff, etc the pool enhancement & slide addition will generate, it is highly likely that this will continue.
No one knows if the day will come that they will want to/need to sell their DVC membership. Personally, I would want to have the membership that would bring the highest resale value, if unfortuanately this ever occured.
Again it is not like DH can not stay every, single trip at OKW--if that is what he wants. This would only be a problem if they stop members from staying in non home resorts. The chances of this happening are most likely very very slim. So why not hold on to a more valuable contract???

That's always an option isn't it. If you don't like your home resort you can sell and buy through the resale market to get want you really want.

No way does DVC become limited to your home resort. There's no financial advantage to doing such. Most resorts have great occupancy levels, including Vero and HH, which are wonderful alternative vacation choices to WDW and help with DVC sales. Try to book a 1 bedroom villa at HH during the summer or at Vero during spring break. Good luck.
