What's the best way to travel from Wilderness Lodge Villas to Universal?

We are planning a week at the Wilderness Lodge Villas. My kids want to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, so we will probably do two days at Universal. Should we rent a car and drive, or take a taxi? Any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. On our last trip to WDW, we rented a car for one day to go to Kennedy Space Center. I can't remember how much we paid for parking at the hotel. That trip, we were at POR. Any one know how much the hotel will charge for 2-3 nights of parking?

Also, we are not 100% set on the choice of hotel. If it's easier from a different resort, we could take that into consideration.

Mears offers a shuttle between any WDW resort and Universal. You can find more info about it here. I believe it runs around $18 per person. If you only do one day at Universal, Dreams Unlimited has a deal that includes a 1 day, 2 park ticket and transportation for $114 (only $2 more than the ticket alone).

The problem with Mears and any shuttles is they go to multiple resorts on their way to and from, it may take you 2-3 times longer to get to Universal... I would recommend you just rent. Then you don't waste your precious "park hours" traveling from resort to resort while a bus pick more people up.

There is no charge for parking at your hotel.

I've heard there are advantages of staying at a Universal hotel when going there. You might want to look into what those are. It doesn't sound like you are committed to staying at Disney.

We go to US/IOA often and we always rent a car. There are a few places you can rent right on property or at the hotel village at DtD. You don't pay to park at your resort, but you do have to pay to park at US/IOA. Its the same price as WDW ($14?). You most likely will be able to rent a car for around $50 for a 24 hour period. The drive is very easy and takes about 15-20 minutes to get there and while you have that car, take some time to zip up to the outlets on your way back. We find lots of our WDW stuff there, most of the 50 to 75% off, and a stop at the grocery store for a few snacks and drinks should be on your list too.
