What's the best car rental rate I can expect for Memorial Day weekend?

Hello Experts!

I keep checking the rates for rental cars with pick up on Friday afternoon and a return on Monday evening. I'm not flexible on the return time so it seems I'm stuck paying the extra day fee.

The lowest I've found so far is $122 with Thrifty.

Hotwire will give me $114 but I'm not sure what companies they would use? Any ideas?

So is that my best bet or do you think more codes/specials will become available during that time?

Thanks,
Brenda

I used hotwire for an SUV rental 5/29-6/6 and got Hertz. I kind of wish I had waited because Hertz is off-terminal and we'd rather have in-terminal of course. Oh well, hindsight's always 20/20. Just thought I'd mention this in case you'd rather get in-terminal. Did you try L&M?

That weekend seems to be very popular. I booked my minivan in January and it has gone up steadily. As far as Hotwire, I wouldn't chance getting a less that reputable company. Try Orbitz or Expedia.. They let you pick the company. Rentalcodes.com has a lot of codes for weekend rates, but the problem is that Memorial day is blacked out on many deals. I would book the Thrifty rate ASAP. Then work on finding a better deal.

I guess it depends alot on what size car you are going to be renting. I reserved a full size car for 5/27-6/1 from National for 134.00 (with taxes and fees it's 171.00). Do your prices include taxes and fees?

Yes, those quotes include all taxes and fees. I did go ahead and book with Thrifty but I guess I'm wondering if I can do any better.

I have currently booked a combact, I'd travel in a tin can for this trip, just not going to be there that long. Thought about town car service but it's just about a wash once I add in the gratituity (it's just for my husband and myself).

I get in at 11:00 on Friday but don't leave until 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Every company I've looked at so far considers this a 4 day rental (instead of a 3 day plus extra hours) and I lose out on most of the "weekend rates" this way but can't quite qualify for the weekly rates as you need 5 days for that.

Thanks for the great suggestions so far, keep them coming!

Brenda
