A Mortgage.
My parents paid cash for their houses. Of course the first one only cost $2,500
My in laws also paid cash for their houses. Difference there was FIL was career Air Force so housing was always included until he retired. So he had 23+ years to save the $14,000 for his first house.

New Car, large vehicles. My parents always had small sub-compact vehicles-VW bug, LeCar, mostly 3 cylinder. We've had a pick-up and SUVs. And like others laptops or any computers.

A bankruptcy and a certificate of Divorce. They probably weren't proud of me for either one.

Oh, yea! And a Cadillac. Something my father always wanted but never could afford. That was a few years after the bankruptcy and divorce. Draw your own conclusions about that.
