what's so great about WL?

Is WL the newest of the MK resorts? Does the lack of connection with the monorail set it back by much in terms of overall convenience? Are the rooms in other MK resorts such as the Polynesian updated and competitive? If you were picking the one MK resort that made the very best experience for kids ages 11 and 7 (boys), who will want to go to Epcot and WK as well, would it be WL or somewhere else?

The WL is one of the Disney resorts that has that huge "wow" factor. Whenever we've brought friends or family to stay with us at one of our DVC resorts, we ALWAYS visit the WL, either for a great meal at the Whispering Canyon Cafe, or just to visit the lobby and the gift shop. The boat ride to MK is wonderful, or the bus is a short 5 min to MK. And then you can just hop on the monorail to Epcot from MK. We loved sitting on the beach and watching the electric water parade in the evenings, or going over to Fort Wilderness for free outdoor movies in the evenings. Our boys were always excited about the 'cool' lobby with its wood carvings, huge fireplace, comfy couches and chairs, and the bridge over the springs that go out to the refurbished pool. We had a refurbished room two years ago with flat screen tv. They were more impressed by the lodge than by the Hawaiin themed Poly or the grandeur of the GF. You won't be disappointed by the WL and your boys would love it!

It really is one of the 'funest' resorts to stay in my opinion. I think that boys would love to rent bikes and go over to fort wilderness. Whispering canyon cafe is an awesome atmosphere restaurant for kids at breakfast and dinner. Also the pool and just general appearance on the resort really are awe-inspiring.
