For a few years now, Jacoby Ellsbury has been setting the table for a stable of star hitters. However, Ellsbury has never been an All-Star himself. That drought could be coming to an end, as the Red Sox's dynamic leadoff hitter is gaining ground and getting closer to earning one of the three starting outfield spots for the American League.

As the fourth round of balloting results were released on Tuesday, Ellsbury ranked fourth among outfielders with 2,249,323 votes. Trailing by just 151,085 votes, he has closed the gap significantly on Josh Hamilton of the Rangers, who is third at 2,400,408.

Ellsbury's teammate Carl Crawford -- who went on the disabled list late last week with a nagging left hamstring injury -- currently ranks fifth among AL outfielders with 1,789,097 votes.

After playing just 18 games last season because of rib woes, Ellsbury is having a strong season. He entered Tuesday hitting .311 with 52 runs, 90 hits, 22 doubles, eight homers, 24 stolen bases and a .373 on-base percentage.
