What's more American than Disney?!We Brave the 4th of July! TR LINK pg. 55!!!!!!!

I never got the chance to see the Golden Girls house. And I LOVE the Golden Girls. I have all the DVDs.

Nikki:

I LOVE the olympics---especially the winter games. I was amazed to find out how much I enjoyed the snowboarding more than anything. It is amazing whay they can do on those boards. I especially liked it when they race on them. That is come amazing skill.

We have a ton of snow where I live right now in Ohio. DS soon to be 8 (this week!) wants a snowboard now---go figure! His dad is having a cow thinking he will get hurt. So funny as that is usually me!

I will tell you though that it has done a number for my sleep. I don't think I have had a good night's rest since it started as I am staying up too late!

after never having seen curling in my whole life me and my sister were bizarrely glued to it tonight, such a weird sport, the most unusual mix of women and so graceful at the start and then the mayhem of the brushing whilst you're kinda wondering how effective can that furious brushing really be...but so interesting!!!

i love seeing UK doing well but like so may irish families we've got a big american link, 2 of my dad's sisters are in america and one in canada...love how patriotic people are in the US!!! the part in sea world where they ask members of the armed forces to stand up and the audience cheers is so cool!

what age do you teach nikki?

I know! Isn't curling fascinating?! I've been so hooked on it too! But when do you EVER see curling other than the Olympics! Weird!

Aw, I never saw that at Sea World. I would cry! We saw Billy Joel in concert a few years ago (last concert at Shea!) and when he sang "Goodnight Saigon" he had the NYPD and FDNY choirs singing along, you know..."And we will alllll go dowwwwn together..." I was a hysterical mess! It was awesome!

I LOVE the Golden Girls house!! I do miss that part. I did go see LMA and we did enjoy it. I liked finding out some of the 'tricks' and it was the ONLY thing my husband asked to see at Disney so absolutely. We've gone to Disney World as a family 4 years in a row and this year he's insisting on Alaska. So I'm heading up north in May/June. BUT I'll be at Disney World for a conference in a couple weeks and I might take the kids this summer to WDW with my mom - but we'll see!

You teach 2nd graders??? I'm postmarking my son to you now....

Okay, is anyone else obsessed with the Olympics? i just love it this year! I'm even watching curling...CURLING! The most random, ridiculous winter sport I have ever seen! Where does one begin to become a curler? (Is that what they are called?) And the Biathalon! Just as ridiculous! Shoot a rifle, then do a penalty ski lap? So random! But I'm watching it all.

In my class, we talk about the Olympics every day. We go on the website and watch videos and chart all the medals. I have them look up the flag that is shown on the website to find the countries that won each medal in each event and we have a giant chart on the wall outside our classroom. I'll post a picture of it when it's complete.

So just when I thought I couldn't become MORE obsessed, I just made the Olympic theme song my new ringtone! I just love it!!

Plus, USA is way in the lead with number of medals and I'm so proud! DH says that's why everyone else hates us! (Christy, Emma, Stefy...you guys don't hate us, right?) Anyway, DH is just so sick of the Olympics! The funny thing is, I NEVER watch any sports...not even the Superbowl but I just can't stop. It's my patriotism I think and the fact that it's only every few years and I love that the whole world can come together for some good fun and friendly competition!

Oh, and I love the commercials for British Columbia! Looks beautiful!

So am I the only one?

You sound just like me! I have been so into the Olympics this year. And, I LOVE curling. I did find a league here in Pittsburgh but the practices are every Saturday night until midnight........too late for me! Not to mention it is about a 45 minute drive each way. Oh well.

I have also seriously considered a vacation in British Columbia after seeing it too!

I think it is great that you are integrating it at school. If you need something fun for the "non-Olympic" years - try the Iditarod - it is held every year and of course is appealing to the kids. My kids' fifth grade teacher did a whole unit on it. They loved it, although it would have to be toned down for your age group. Still, could be fun though.

Yeah, it's not really a "backlot" anymore. It's more like a props graveyard...but I haven't done it in a few years so I could be wrong...

Yes, we did talk a little about the Iditarod. We read a story about it and they were so interested that we went a little further and read about the dogs that helped bring the medicine to Nome, Alaska. It was actually more a dog named Togo that brought the medicine most of the way but Balto is the famous one that got all the credit because he ran the last leg and actually brought the medicine to Nome. I know....SNORE! I'm a nerd about incredible, true stories! I found it all so interesting!

One course down....nine more to go!!!

The first class ended yesterday and the new class started today. With the start of this new class, I'm feeling much better about being able to spend the week in Disney and still be able to get my work done. We leave on the Thursday of the first week of a new class (each course is 2 months so I'll already be starting my 4th course by then!) and we have access to the online course 4 days before. So, if I just make sure I look at what's due, I should be able to get most of it done ahead of time and for the discussion posts that need to be done on certain days, I can do it in advance but bring my laptop to post from the resort. It's a pain but definitely doable and hopefully won't cut too much into park time!

PLUS, if I have my laptop with me, I can post some live updates to my TR for you guys!!! :thumbsup2

Congratulations on getting one class done and over with! A live report sounds great too!

Thanks! Yes, I'll definitely give little snippets if I can but I'll save the bulk of the TR for when I get back. I'm certainly not going to be bothered uploading pics and stuff like that but I'll let you all know where I've been and where I"m going!! Fun!

Nikki, Is the masters in Education? I remember doing courses online and just plugging along to finish. I think once you establish a routine they get easier. Can you keep going or do you have to stick to dates for each course?

Yes it's in Education. Yeah, I had a pretty good routine going until my lap top crashed, then I got all out of whack but I think I'm back on track now!! I just started in January of this year and I should be done by the end of Summer '11.

I know! It should be fun! Although I wish it would get here faster! There's been quite a lull in my TR and I feel like I just want the trip to be here already!
