What's going on with overflow parking

We just returned from a week at the Fort and had yet another fabulous time as usual. The weather last week was really spectacular, especially when compared to the Ontario winter we are still experiencing.

Anyway, what's going with the overflow parking, it was jammed packed for much of the week. There are signs posted at the front that parking was limited and visitors were asked to park at Wilderness Lodge. When friends arrived to visit us they were turned away and directed to the lodge. When we did the Segway experience others in our group were asked to park at the Dog Kennel and a small shuttle picked them up.

As far as I recall they haven't added much to the fort lately to draw more visitors so why is the parking such a problem now? Its obvious these "fixes" to the parking problem are short-term and costly as well as negatively impacting guests so there must be changes in the works to remedy this going forward.

I wonder too, super_camper.

Was the Fort particularly full while you were there?

Was the lot full of vehicles, cargo trailers & dollies, or rv's?

Did you notice any sites with more than 1 vehicle (maybe some wheels dropped on the dirt)?

The LAST option I would expect it to be is that the Fort was enforcing the one-vehicle-per-site rule and leaving gentle reminders on windshields overnight asking folks to move extra vehicles to the lot.

Who knows? :confused3

There are a fair amount of campers who drive their car to the parking lot and then get on a bus to one of the parks. Have seen this many times waiting for the buses.

Run Disney weekend was the most I ever saw the lot full. But that was every area but the farthest 3 rows over where everyone parks smaller trailers and whatnot. I know I left my truck down in that area of overflow next to our golf cart trailer. I just could not fit the truck into my site without causing problems for other rigs trying to get by or parked in nearby sites. I had my golf cart so I really didnt need the truck at my site.

The Fort was full, there were actually very few empty sites but that's not uncommon during the times we visit. I spent some time looping and I have to say the one car per site rule is completely ignored. I was in a full hookup in 1800 and there were over a dozen sites on that loop alone with more than 1 car and 1 site with more than 2 cars. I suspect this is the result of the lack of parking.

There were a lot of RV's and trailers in the lot but the most noticeable was more cars than normal, they of course filled the spots closer to the front gate and were also scattered throughout the RV parking area.

I will add that it really slows down the check-in line (not the one for returning guests) as they have to explain things and direct people to the lodge or elsewhere, it's also the first I have heard of them using the nearby kennel for parking. Our visitors weren't given a map or anything, they were directed to the lodge with some verbal instructions only.

I was redirected to WL last month. I just pulled into the first open parking space and parked. There were many empty parking spots. I didn't understand why we were being redirected??? I then headed to TE for breakfast. :confused3

We were staying OP last week (oh how I missed the fort!) and we drove past the fort I did notice the overflow lot looked crowded, I counted at least 5 motorhomes parked there.

We were in 1830 until March 14th, 2nd to the last on the right, blue truck.
I agree on the multiple cars on sites, the ones across from us had 3 cars at times and usually 2, the site next to us had 14 people on it for our last week.

I was just around the loop a little from you and I think I know the site you're talking about with all the people. That is crazy and should not be allowed.

I understand the lack of enforcement of some rules but when people's actions negatively impact those around them Disney should be more pro-active.

I cant imagine what impact it would have on the facilities if every site had that many people on it. Crazy me, I actually parked my sons car up front for the week they were with us. Sometimes I dont know why I inconvenience myself to follow the rules if Disney doesnt care, I guess my Mom just raised me better than that.
