We are wanting to go August 15th thru the 19th and they have been sold out since June for key holders. How can every day in summer be open but nothing in mid to late August?

We called Disney a few times and they can't give a straight answer and told us to buy park tickets....

My question is, do we know any keyholders with reservations that week or is it blocked out?

People getting in last visits before school? Before Key expires? California 3-day ticket holders booking lots of reservations (so fewer available for Magic Keys)? I don't know.

I just checked and saw that Aug 30 was available to make a reservation for a DCA start. Doesn't answer the bigger question, but I'd bet dates in those weeks will pop up, especially as we get closer. Although it might be tough to get a block of 15-19th in a row.

The Enchant Key gets unblocked from it's summer block out on August 15 and the Imagine Key gets un-blocked on August 22nd so it is probably pent up demand for those people who have not been able to go since early June. Also many people's passes (of all levels) expire at the end of August if they bought them right when they became available last year so people may be trying for one or two last visits before their passes expire since we don't know what renewals look like yet.

It is just that they are booked by other key holders already.

To prove this, here is the availability calendar for our 4 Dream Keys when I go through my upcoming hotel reservation link:

Our Dream Keys expire Sept 2, FWIW. If you want guaranteed park access, book a hotel reservation. They will give you access on 60 days to either side of your reservation.

I am at a good neighbor hotel that week and got stuff done really quickly but I did have to wait for all the dates to come up

I have 3 reservations so far. Been checking almost every day for over a month. Sometimes multiple times a day. This entire fiasco could have been entirely avoided if the reservation window was 60 days instead of 90 because everybody who went in June couldn't get August dates.

There's two things Disney could do that could immediately help the problem which they aren't doing:
1. open up more reservations rather than artificially create scarcity for Keyholders
2. allow renewals. The renewal window for people who bought day 1 opens up tomorrow and they have no info on it yet. People who upgraded on day 1 are already in their renewal window. Once people renew, the reservations will be spread out to later in the year rather than all forced to be used in August.

I still have a very hard time believing that reservations have been wide open up until August 15th. I personally do not believe that it’s key holders with reservations. Total BS. Looks like a glitch to me.

It's not a glitch. It is literally because the 2 lower tier passes unblock on the 15th.

I have a Dream Key. This is what it looks like right now for me (I already have the 31st of July booked):

One small correction: Enchant unblocks the 15th like you said. Imagine unblocks a week later on the 22nd. Which is probably compounding it even more 🙃

Still not buying it. Never saw those dates open. People can believe what they want.

They were booked up within days of going live in May. Basically anyone who had reservations left after booking whatever they needed before the June blockouts immediately dumped the rest of their reservations on those two weeks. Both weeks were fully booked by the start of June.

The dates opened. As an out of state Enchant Key holder I booked my 4 days within those 2 weeks as soon as they became available. My sister, also an Enchant Key holder, wasn't sure if she was going to be able to make the trip with me. Once I saw Aug 15th became unavailable so quickly, I told my sister she better make reservations ASAP just in case it worked out for her to go. Thankfully she did make those reservations, because by the time she knew "for sure" that she would be able to go, all 4 dates we had booked had become unavailable. They went very quickly.

We weren't trying to snag one more trip on our passes, those dates just worked out best for others in our party.

Of course the dates opened. I initially booked the 23rd with my Imagine Key. Plans changed and in late June I booked August 31st and Sept. 1st.

Yeah, I had it in my calendar when my whatever pass level I had opened up (August 15?), and they were definitely available. It's that magic time where passes become unblocked and kids are often still out of school. It's been kind of this way in years past, those unblocking of the lowest passes really strains the park, except now we have reservations to contend with.

After using my (booked same-day) reservation yesterday, I was perusing the calendar and saw both August 25 and 26 available starting in CA for me to book with my Believe Key. They're gone now of course, but I guess it's still possible.

I wonder if as often happens, they'll suddenly open up more Magic Key availability for those weeks or if expected attendance will truly be too busy for that to happen.

I don't think it'll be as crowded as the lack of reservations is suggesting. A lot of people are holding reservations for those weeks just because they can't hold reservations for any other time. This includes people who would like to renew to go later but are blocked from reserving after their expiration date and people with no intention to renew. The second group is also in a rather interesting position because now that Disney has antagonized people with the reservation system, these people have less goodwill to actually cancel their reservations if they don't intend to go. If the punishment for not showing up is that their passes get blocked from making reservations but their passes are expiring anyway, why even go through the trouble of cancelling?

I'm sure they'll open up Magic Key availability at some point because I don't think they'll actually sell that many tickets for those weeks. It'll likely be a last minute availability dump though.

As a non-key holder visiting the parks during that time frame, I sure hope you are right. Your points make sense.

They likely will open up more reservations. It's happened for all dates that have been sold out in advance as the dates get closer.

Oh they opened, because I have a park reservation for 8/18. And I watched closely. 8/15 sold out first….. that’s the first day the passes open up. I initially booked DCA for 8/16, and then switched to DLP on 8/18 when it opened up.
