What's going on at MK

Just checked park hours for our trip 1/18-1/28. Saturday 1/23 is listed 9am-12midnight (not emh) and Sunday 1/24 listed 9am-10pm (also not emh). They weren't listed that late last time I checked. Does anyone know if there is an event going on that weekend. I don't want to make FP+ for later if they will just boot me off them as it gets closer. Also, do they have FP+ times during extended hours if an event isn't going on?

It's not unusual for them to extend park hours. If there was a private event, the park would be closing earlier, not later.

Do they get a lot of locals in January when MK is open until midnight on a Saturday? Trying to decide whether it's worth going at night or if it will be packed. We've never been to MK that late, only the night EMH.

It can be hit or miss, I've seen it both ghost town and no chance to ride anything crazy. If you can't find any other reason, I would guess there is a convention or something that weekend and they extended it to get more after 4pm convention tickets sold.

There are always a lot of locals every weekend. FPs are available until closing anytime except for EMH hours. If it was a special event, the hours would be shorter, not longer. I'd recommend that you look at the crowd calendar for Jan, and Josh's detailed explanations for the days of your visit at easywdw.com.

Sat is not a recommended day. It is the most crowded day of the week, followed by Mondays. If you're going to do a later night at MK, Sun would probably be the day to do it.
